Wedding Cakes with a Victorian Venue

Queen Elizabeth Would Have Been Jealous

When it comes to Victorian wedding cakes, soft and romantic touches are the key. In the search for the top five Victorian wedding cake designs, I came across some cakes that I fell in love with. Victorian isn't what I would pick for myself, but in the quest for helping a friend plan her Victorian theme wedding I want whatever I can get my hands on to speak romance for her special day.

I personally have a love affair with cake, but in reality it is the centerpiece of every wedding reception. My first Victorian find that I would rate the fifth on the list, is a square design which I love. This elegant piece of heaven is showcased on a column which adds a royal touch. This cake speaks everything royal even in the icing referred to as "royal icing". The icing is solid white which was very characteristic of Victorian weddings since it represented purity. This "Royal Victorian" cake looks like gift boxes stacked on top of each other, and is so detailed you can even see the detail of the box lid on each tier. This three tier beauty can be found at www.wildflowersbylori.com. In fact, Celebrity Living Magazine refers to this designer as "The Renoir of Sugar Art". The design on her Victorian tiers is reminiscent of doilies and fans as the shapes swirl just enough to show up with the white on white color. The trick with this cake is the rolled fondant to create tiny edible pearls all the way around the box lids, and the bottom two tiers have their own personal box lid latch. One looks like an antique lock, the other is a small starfish.

You won't find anything artificial in this royal design, because the Chef Lori Ann Blethen was trained using all natural ingredients. Wildflowers cakes are only made using farm fresh eggs and real creamery butter. She offers around 27 different types of cake. Since this one is all white, let's just say it's White Chocolate which is one of my favorite flavors for everything. My friend is getting married in the fall, so the Pumpkin Cake is sure to be a delight. In this Pumpkin Cake, you will find dried cranberries with a blend of warm spices. Melded with white chocolate I will definitely go into a coma.

The second find that comes in fourth on my list is found at www.torteditoni.com. This one I find intriguing because this pastry chef is located in Italy off the Tuscan coast. This cake is simply called "Battesimo Matrimonio Comunione". This Victorian cake is very soft and romantic, much as how I would envision Italy. Toni's cakes are nothing short of amazing, but this Victorian I love. I like this one because it comes with the miniature cakes at the bottom that are reflective of little details that make each mini tier different. The butterflies that grace these minicakes as well as the tiny roses are taken from the history of the charms that would be inserted into the cake as tradition. The tiny flowers are made from sugar paste, and some have edible silver balls. The overall cream color is perfect for the theme and makes you think lace. Each tier with its own design is small distinction that speaks Victorian with fine lines that criss cross and pastel pink ribbon adds that special touch. Toni offers some unique flavors like coffee and caramel, but for this cake I think I would definitely choose either the White Chocolate or the Limone. I love the color combination she chose for her Victorian, and of course I love the small roses.

My third choice was unlikely but made the list because of its unique nature. This cake is Victorian from start to finish with its heart shape, and lacy scrolls on both tiers. This one is a small two tier cake you can find at www.colettescakes.com. Its green color a little on the mint side is typical of the Victorian era. In the spring it was common to see this shade of green, and this cake does wears it well with the ivory scrolling and flowers. This designer uses real lace fabric which must have taken hours and the top of this cake is just remarkable with a fondant vase filled with dried flowers. This is cake is nothing short of unique using all materials available. This cake is a must see for those who want a Victorian themed wedding.

The cake that comes in second I found at www.tiffanysbakingco.com. This was a tough choice as it tied with the next cake on the list! This cake is everything with Victorian and very soft in color. This cake is four tiers of cream fondant goodness. Each tier is decked in a wreath like design with green, pink, yellow and ivory roses, and green foliage to finish it off. At the bottom of these tiers you will see what appears to be tiny pearl detail which for me is a must have on any Victorian cake. Last but not least, my favorite feature of this cake is the white chalice cake topper filled with my favorite flowers; roses! This cake is simply elegant and is just right for those wanting the Victorian theme in the spring. The colors are perfect but as any designer will tell you, you can pick your colors to tie in with your bridal attire.

Last but not least on my Victorian cake list is this beauty I found at www.amazingcakesbyjoanne.com. This one she deems "Pink Beauty", and its name is certainly clarified by its soft pink roses. I fell in love with this cake because of the soft cream color, the soft roses, and the green and pink rose theme ribbon around the bottom tiers. If that wasn't enough to give that Victorian feel, I was most definitely drawn in with the pearl strands. The sugar paste pearls can be eaten if you want a sugar rush, so let me at it! Again real lace was used on this cake around the bottom of each tier, and the edges were buttercream icing; my personal favorite. This cake also had my favorite cake topper of all; a bouquet of roses. Joanne specializes in Buttercream and Chocolate Ganache for her cakes. What more can you ask for?

If you want to do a Victorian wedding cake, there is a lot to pick from. I was surprised when I started my search because I have never been to a wedding with a Victorian theme. These cakes were all very well done with a lot of options on flavors and fillings. Just start by googling, "Victorian wedding cakes", and you are sure to find almost anything you need to know.
