For this project, you will need (per centerpiece):
- One small ceramic teapot with removable lid (available at craft supply shops and even some flea markets)
- Mild dish detergent
- Water
- Paper towels
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color of your choice
- Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in a coordinating color
- Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
- Computer with printer
- Cardstock
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Scissors
- Flowers of your choice
- Florist's tape
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
For easier cleanup when you are finished with this centerpiece project, cover your crafting area with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Remove the lid from the small ceramic teapot. Wash both the lid and the main portion of the teapot with a mild dish detergent. Rinse both well and dry with paper towels. Turn the teapot upside down to dry for an hour or longer.
Leave the teapot turned upside down. Prime both the outside of the teapot and the top of the lid using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint both pieces using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color of your choice. Wait thirty minutes, apply a second coat of paint, and dry both pieces for several hours.
Use a computer word processing program to create a monogram in a font and size of your choice. Print the monogram onto a sheet of cardstock. Lay the cardstock flat on the self healing mat. Carefully cut out the monogram design using a craft knife. (Hint: The simpler the monogram is, the easier it will be to cut out.) Discard the cutout and keep the remaining cardstock.
Turn the teapot base right side up. Spray the back of the cardstock with Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the cardstock to the side of the teapot. Fill in the monogram design with a couple coats of Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in a coordinating color. Let the teapot dry overnight.
Place the teapot in the center of the reception table. Gather a bunch of flowers of your choice. Wrap the stems with florist's tape so they stay together. Trim the stems with scissors so that the flowers fit inside the teapot and the blooms rest on top.
TIP: The painting of the teapot lid is optional. Although it is not used in the final centerpiece, it allows you to have a matching set for use long after the wedding reception. (If you have the paint out already, why not use it?)
