For this project, you will need (per centerpiece):
- Five or more metal mint julep cups
- Inexpensive full length wall mirror (available at stores such as Target or Walmart for under ten dollars)
- Votive candles in a coordinating color
- Flower petals
- Table
- Silk or faux silk fabric in a coordinating color
- One inch wide satin ribbon in a coordinating color
- Scissors
- Tablecloth
- Glass cleaner
- Paper towels
To start, carefully remove all backing and frame from a full length wall mirror. Make sure there is no remnant glue or anything else on the glass by using a bit of glass cleaner and paper towels. (If there still is stickiness on the mirror from removing the frame, use a bit of Goo Gone or other similar cleaner.) Place a tablecloth onto the table. Lay the mirror on the table so that the shiny side is facing up.
Cut a few strips of silk or faux silk fabric in a coordinating color. The size of the strips is up to you. Place the pieces onto the mirror glass piece, as desired. Cut lengths of one inch wide satin ribbon in a coordinating color. Wrap the ribbon pieces around each of the mint julep cups and secure with a bow.
Arrange the ribbon wrapped julep cups on the silk pieces on the mirror glass. Insert votive candles in a coordinating color into the cups. Sprinkle flower petals around the silk and julep cups. Light the candles and enjoy!
TIP: Smaller mirror glass pieces can be used, as well. Check your local craft store's florist and wedding section for precut pieces. Also, consider using mismatched size mint julep cups. This works well to add a shabby chic style to your centerpiece.
WHERE TO FIND MINT JULEP CUPS : Mint julep cups are readily available at flea markets, antique stores, or thrift stores. New varieties can be purchased in sets online. Or, consider the more cost effective option or purchasing plastic ones from a party or craft store. (Avoid burning the candles if you are using plastic mint julep cups.)
