For this project, you will need (per votive holder):
- One clear glass votive holder
- Soapy water
- Paper towels
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Fabric rosettes (see tip below)
- Half inch wide satin ribbon
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Votive candle in a coordinating color
- Old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
To start, cover the space you will be crafting in with sheets of old newspaper and/or a fairly large drop cloth. Wash one clear glass votive holder with water and a mild dish detergent. Rinse the glass votive holder well. Dry the outside of the holder with paper towels and place it upside down.
Prime the outside and bottom of the votive holder using two to four coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primer on the glass votive holder dry for a couple hours before proceeding. Paint the outside of the primed votive holder using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color. Allow the paint to set for twenty to thirty minutes before adding an additional coat of paint. Continue to add paint coats in this fashion until you reach the desired color shade. Dry overnight.
Cut a length of half inch wide satin ribbon long enough to wrap horizontally around the center of the painted votive holder and only overlap by a quarter inch. Spray the back of the satin ribbon piece with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the ribbon around the votive holder.
Once the spray adhesive is dry, heat up the hot glue gun. Apply a dab of hot glue to the back of one fabric rosette. Adhere the rosette to the ribbon piece on the glass votive holder. If desired, attach more rosettes with additional hot glue. Cool completely before inserting a coordinating colored votive candle and enjoying.
TIP: Fabric rosettes can be found in a wide variety of places. Check craft stores or flea markets for pre-made versions. Or, create your own by doing a web search for instructions. This project is an excellent way to use up leftover fabric and ribbon scraps from other craft and sewing projects!
