Don't make the same mistake! Just because Cameron Diaz wore a "short in the front long in the back" dress to the Oscars does not mean you should take your vows in it. Instead, stick with classic styles that flatter your figure. There are numerous resources on the web and in women's magazines that can guide you to the right dress style.
For most of us price is a big concern when it comes to wedding dresses. We all want "the perfect dress", but when you see that perfect dress with the discrete five $'s next to it you know it's far out of your price range. There are a lot of ways to skimp on a dress without sacrificing your pride as you stroll down the aisle.
1)
Try borrowing one; ask your friends and family if they have a wedding dress that you could use. Make sure you ask permission to make alterations; if they give you the thumbs up you could have your dream gown and save a ton!
2)
Auction sites like Ebay are always a possibility, but I'd be a bit weary of this option. Before you think about bidding on a dress make sure all of your questions and concerns are taken care of.
3)
Search for a used dress locally by using Craigslist. If you don't find what you're looking for then post a "wanted" add. You never know what you'll come up with!
4)
I know several women who've found their perfect dress at warehouse sales. I personally can't imagine trying to choose a wedding gown from racks and racks of them on hangers, but if you can, then more power to you!
The perfect dress is complimented by the perfect make up and jewelry. Again, I stress, keep it simple and classy. Make-up is made to accentuate your features, not cover them up. If you cannot afford to have your make up done professionally on your big day it's no big deal! Get great make up ideas by visiting the cosmetics counter at any department store. You can usually get your make up done for free there. If you like what you see then you can either purchase the products right there or buy the same colors for a lower price at the drugstore. A couple of common make up mistakes are:
1)
Over lining your eyes, eye liner can add lovely dimension to your eyes but over doing it just makes them look small. Avoid using eye liner all the way around, skip your lower lids and just add a bit of mascara to the lower lashes. This creates a very flirty look. Also, black isn't the best shade for everyone! You might try using navy blue, dark brown, or even a dark green depending on your eye color, it can make a huge difference! Contrary to popular belief Marylyn Monroe used a shade of dark brown, not black.
2)
Eye brows are possibly one of the most overlooked beauty aids. Nicely groomed eye brows will do wonders for your over all look. Steer clear of super thin Pamela Anderson style brows and go for a thicker look. I did say thicker, not bushy!
You'll look absolutely radiant on your big day if you stick to classic styles and avoid incorporating trends into your wedding. However, if something has to be tacky, then make it the bridesmaids' dresses and not you!
