Ideas for Wedding Receptions

There is nothing more special than the joining of two people in love. Every bride wants that perfect wedding with the right flowers, music, dress, and reception. With all of the wedding jitters sometimes simple is easier.

I have not had the opportunity to attend a great deal of receptions but the few that I have attended have had very simple but elegant centerpiece ideas.

My sister wanted a mid range affair and with a small budget chose a do it yourself theme. She started with the church. Simple pew ends done in fake flowers she had found at the local craft store on sale, added to this was ribbon and a roll out runner.

For the reception she chose small glass bowls filled with black and white mollies from the local pet shop. Each table had its own bowl with glass marbles in the bottom and one or two mollies with ribbon in her wedding colors around the top. This idea is very versatile because you can change color and style to meet your needs. You could also use lace around the top instead of ribbon and different types of fish.

The only problems we had with this idea was that the groom fish, the black molly, decided to commit suicide the night before the wedding by jumping out of the bowl ,extra fish are highly recommended just in case. We had to drive to the next state to get new fish the morning of the wedding. Right after the reception we found that the new groom had given birth to a school of babies. While this is a wonderful event for the fish it's quite funny to have the item representing the groom giving birth.

Another reception I attended used small plastic "glass" slippers with the small butter mints inside as table decorations and the attendees could take the slippers home as souvenirs. The center of the table had the same glass bowls from my sisters wedding with colored sand and candles instead of the fish my sister had chosen. These were also decorated with the ribbon to match the bride's colors.

Everything these two weddings used, other than the fish, could be stored and re-used at a later date; they could be altered to fit each particular wedding theme without looking like the previous affair. The bowls could be filled with candy, nuts, or other small decorative items of the bride's choice, and your bank will still be intact to use on other things.

The recycling of the beautiful glass bowls sounds like a good idea, and the fish story was hilarious!
