Decorations for a wedding can eat up a large part of your budget. It is possible to dramatically cut the costs by making your wedding decorations yourself. DIY wedding decorations don't have to look cheap or tacky. You just need to be creative and financially savvy. Enjoy these unique ideas for DIY wedding decorations on a budget.

Create DIY wedding decorations with items borrowed from your home. If your home is well decorated, why not take advantage of that and use your home decor for your wedding. Search your home for your favorite vases, candle sticks, greenery, and unique decor items from your home. Don't worry about everything being an identical match. Instead choose items that fit within a style or theme. If you only have enough decorating items in your home to create arrangements for the head table, then at least you have the most important part of the decorations already paid for. To fill the rest of the room with decorations and table centerpieces, check discount stores for items that will coordinate with those you already have. Label the bottom of all of your items to ensure that no guest takes anything home as a "gift' or "prize".

Create DIY wedding decorations with Items from nature. Take advantage of natural items that you can gather for free to decorate your wedding. In the summer and spring, you can have your pick of fruit, flowers, and flowering branches in the wild and in your yard. In the fall, you can use pussy willows, and twigs with colorful leaves attached. In the winter, you can spray paint branches with artificial snow or collect evergreen branches. Use found items to make your table place cards as well. Write names on small cards and insert them into the top of pine cones which make a great holder. Write your guests names on river stones or seashells.

Create DIY wedding decorations with tons of tulle fabric. Tulle fabric covers a multitude of sins. For less than $1.00 a yards, and considering the multitude of colors available, you can purchase nothing but tulle and decorate an entire church and banquet all. Use tulle fabric to make fluffy bows for the church pews and to drape the wedding arch. Use tulle to tie a bow on the back of every chair, or to use as on colored overlay on the banquet tables. Use tulle to make streamers overhead and to hang from walls, creating a tent-like atmosphere. Use all white, or combine any number of colors to personalize your DIY wedding decorations. Combine your tulle decorations with a modest amount of flowers for a large impact.

Create DIY wedding decorations with candles. Candles are one of the least expensive decor items you can purchase and candlelight is a wonderful way to create ambiance, especially in an evening wedding. Your options for creating a breathtaking arrangement with candles are endless. You can cut hearts and lovebird designs into paper bags to create luminaries for pennies. You can purchase crystal candle holders and engraved votive holders for a little as $2.00 each. You can wrap jars in tissue paper and insert your candles to create a soft glow.
