Wedding Help: Best Wedding Dates for 2010

Kristen May
Not all wedding dates are the same, and in addition to taking these factors into account when planning your special day, consider holding your wedding on one of these best wedding weekends of the year.

Best Wedding Dates: February 14, 2010 (Valentine's Day)

Only twice in every 7 years (approximately, depending on leap years) does Valentine's Day fall on a weekend, and 2010 is one of those years. For any couple looking to do an over-the-top heart-filled wedding, or who just wants to celebrate their anniversary and Valentine's Day as one special holiday together each year, February 14th is the perfect wedding date.

One special consideration to make before planning to hold your wedding on February 14th is that this date is, in many parts of the country, in the middle of a very harsh winter. The bride probably won't want to be outdoors in a strapless gown, guests will come bundled in coats, and flowers will have a difficult time in the cold weather. In addition, if guests will be needing to travel to the wedding, weather can entirely shut down airports (if not in your city, then in theirs), preventing them from being able to come to your wedding.

Best Wedding Dates: May 28-31, 2010 (Memorial Day Weekend)

Another great weekend for your wedding would be Memorial Day weekend. Holding your wedding on a holiday weekend makes it much easier for out-of-town guests to justify the trip, because they have a day off work and will be able to stay an extra day. Any of the days on this weekend would work for your wedding, although Saturday and Sunday are best because they allow the most time for travelers to get to and from your wedding (Sunday is better if you have people who will be coming from out of town for the rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding).

Best of all, Memorial Day weekend is in the heart of the early summer wedding season, and you are likely to have beautiful warm weather, which will make for some great outdoor photographs. Any number of summer themes are available to you, and there are a number of great places to travel during this time of year for your honeymoon!

Best Wedding Dates: June 19-20, 2010

There are no special holidays that fall on this weekend, but it is still one of the best times of 2010 to get married if you are a younger couple. This is because it is the first weekends that falls after all schools (including those on the quarter system) are out for the summer, including seniors who have just graduated. This will allow the greatest number of your friends who are in school to be available to come to your wedding.

Best Wedding Dates: October 23-24, 2010

Lastly, if you have your heart set on a beautiful fall wedding full of oranges and browns, October 23-24 is the ideal weekend for your wedding. It will take place before it gets bitterly cold, while still remaining far enough away from Thanksgiving and Christmas for people to take a couple days off work if they need to travel. Plus, pumpkins are ripe for the picking, making it easy to do a pumpkin-themed wedding.
