with tear drops in my eyes
I was standing there to
see my love one
take his wedding vows
He was standing at the altar
Love and devotions in his eyes
He was waiting there so patiently
to take my best friend for his bride
I tried to wipe, the tear drops away
But, I could not hide
The pain within my heart
I wanted to cry, please, don't
Let this wedding be
The bridegroom is right
But, the bride, it should have
been me
His eyes met mine
as I stood there by the door
Oh, didn't he know, that I
still loved him so?
Didn't he care, that he'd broken
my poor heart?
He turned away from me
Pity in his eyes
Here comes the bride
marching, marching, down the aisle
I could not bear, to see this wedding
go through
So, as the organ played the
wedding march, soft, sweet and low
I turned around and walked out
through the chapel door.

Post a CommentYou always surprise me with a little twist. Very nice!
Wow! This was moving! You've got talent!
This was so well written Mary. It made me cry.
I cried... great job on this
Reminds me of a guy I knew that never quite healed from loss of his first love. Not fun to be listening to tales of she done me wrong~20 years ago. Funny, too, that he had many relationships since that time.
Beautiful poem...I hope also this was not from personal experience.
This brought tears to my eyes. You write so well!
This is a very moving poem. I'm glad it wasn't written from personal experience. I can't imagine watching the man I loved marry someone else!

Very well written-I had already read the follow up & I hope it turned out as well for your friend.
Actually it isn't from a personal experience, Something like this happened to a co-worker of mine years ago, only she didn't go to the wedding. I wrote part two hoping it would turn out something like that for her.
