Wedding Photographers in Emporia, Kansas: LG Photography Review

One of the most difficult and expensive decisions for any wedding is the wedding photographer. Like it or not, you are going to have to spend a great deal of time meeting with and considering a variety of photographers. Some of them will be professional to a fault and some will be so casual that you will lose confidence in his/her abilities within seconds of meeting him/her. In Emporia, Kansas, the decision can be even more difficult because the town is not large enough to support the options of some of the bigger cities. My then fiancé, now wife, and I met with many photographers in the area, and we finally decided on a husband and wife photography team from Burlington, a small town southeast of Emporia.

My wife and I met with the gamut of photographer personalities. One of the photographers we met with delivered his pitch professionally and confidently, but came across a bit pompous and had prices far beyond our price limit. Another photographer met with us in her kitchen, had little in the way of presentation, and lacked any confidence; this meant we had little confidence in her as we weren't sure she could be demanding enough to order the variety of family and friends into line for photographs. Greg and Laurie of LG Photography were a perfect balance between these two extremes.

When we first met with Greg and Laurie at their home, the conversation was light but informative. They showed a large variety of sample pictures and discussed some of the shots they like, or would like to do. There was a definite plan to the whole meeting, but it was not conducted like a job interview. Throughout the discussion, my wife and I began to learn that Greg and Laurie had the right personalities to simultaneously have fun with the wedding party and to order the wedding party around when it was necessary. This was an essential quality for my wife and me.

The final decision was influenced not only by their personalities, but by the price tag on the whole package. The setting fee for the wedding was only $500. This is amazingly low for anyone with even a bit of experience. All of the prints for photos were also well below the average with 4x6's coming in at only $4. The price combined with the careful balance between professional and casual attitudes made LG Photography an ideal choice.

On the wedding day, they performed admirably, and took many, many pictures. They controlled the situation so my wife and I did not have to. They took standard wedding photos, fun photos and candid shots as well as a variety of shot that exhibited our reception hall setup (which was nice considering the time we put into that hall). In the end, we received a proof book of over 250 photos that was included in the $500 upfront fee: NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.

Everything went so well with these photographers that I would recommend them for anyone getting married anywhere around the Burlington or Emporia area.

I would appreciate it if everyone kept a civil tone in their comments. It is perfectly fine that Maid of Honor chose to critique LG photography differently than I did. Not everyone has to agree. Greg and Laurie fit well with my wife and me, but that doesn't mean everyone will appreciate them or their photography. For those of you that posted last, drop the character attacks on "Maid" and focus on the actual reason for the article, the performance of LG photgraphy. Maid of Honor may have been hostile, but it is her right to critique LG Photography and Greg and Laurie as a customer critiquing a business. It is not your right, however, to critique Maid. If it persists I will simply delete the comments. Please be respectful.

Maybe "Maid of Honor" is a qualified critic of good photographer, or by her tone, she wouldn't know good photography if it fell on her.
The photography style of any two photographers will be different, how they handle the wedding couple and the wedding party are also important and will also vary. The articles tone by the bride or groom, which ever wrote it, sounds very satisfied. And by the way "Maid of Honor" that's what counts.

Sounds like the "But I Degress" liked the photographer and the photos. "Maid of Honor" sounds like a bitter person because not enough photos was of her? I would be surprised if this photographer put high quality photos on a website somewhere. Photographers make a portion of their money from photo sales and people like "Maid of Honor" steal them, print them at Walmart or use them with out credit to the photographer. If the photographer placed a large portion on a website, these are ussually untouched and only meant to be used for selection of finished photos that will then be cropped, color corrected, retouched or filtered. A photographer has to be "bossy" to keep everyone in the group on task and too a schedule. Or else not all the photos a couple want will get done, or it will take an entire day. Light hearted joking most times relieves tension and relaxes the parties for more natural photos. Ussually trying to combat a personallity like "Maid of Honor" in the wedding party....

Coming from the area between Burlington and Emporia I have spoke with many clients of Greg and Laurie and I personally have heard nothing but good. I have also learned the Greg and Laurie do photography as a hobby, pure enjoyment, and a childhood memory for Greg. They do weddings mainly for family and friends, but they also put themselves out there for their low prices! I have seen photos they have taken of their grandkids, other weddings, and snap-shots of various things. I do happen to know Greg and Laurie as an old family friend...Greg becomes interested in who a person is not just pay me $500 and take a couple snapshots, he wants to know who that person is in a photograph or else it is just another still person! Laurie is a typical mother that likes to joke but not everyone understands the meaning behind what she is saying. I mean if you volunteered to give up your birthday to do someone's wedding pictures i would joke also. I know Laurie has not only done the photography at a wedd

My best friend got married in March, and she and her husband chose LG Photography for the some of the same reasons you listed. I respect their descision, but personally believe that they were sadly mislead. During the photograph-taking before the ceremony, Greg was often distracted and inattentive, and Laurie was rude and bossy. (My friend commented that she did this to prevent stress on the bride, but really is was just bad attitude.) Laurie also made the commemnt several times that she felt like the bride and groom owed her for scheduling their wedding on her birthday. Also, aside from having to wait for 3 MONTHS to even get proofs of the photos, nearly ALL the photos that are posted on the website are out of focus, poorly lit, and poorly composed. All in all, I STRONGLY Recommend that potential customers seek more professional photographers for their nuptials. LG Photography is nothing but a dissapointment.
