If you have just started a blog for your wedding planning business, congratulations, you're a step ahead of the game. Many businesses haven't yet realized the true potential of blogs. You my friend are a visionary of the wedding planning industry.

Since you are probably new to the whole blogging world, you may not know what blogrolls are. If you did, you probably wouldn't be reading this article now would you? So, lets talk a little bit about what blogrolls are and how you can use them to market your wedding planning blog, website, and services.

What is Blogrolling

If you have spent any time reading or browsing through blogs, then you have probably been exposed to blogrolls without even knowing it. (don't worry, they aren't contagious)

In simple terms, blogrolls are nothing more than a set of links on a blog to other like minded blogs. It is almost the equivalent of a link page on website. Some blogs have simple and short blogrolls, while others have elaborate image based blogrolls. Who's to say which type works better? I personally like the ones with the little banner links. Why, because they're pretty to look at. (Silly, maybe)

Why Should I make a Blogroll for my wedding planning blog?

I think the question you should really be asking yourself is, why aren't I blogrolling? While there are a few different schools of thought on the subject of blogrolling, I am for it. Some bloggers think blogrolling is nothing more than a virtual popularity contest.

The for this is, that the more links you have pointing toward your wedding planning blog, the more popular it looks to search engines and ranking sites like Technorati. While this theory holds some weight, what better way do we have to rank blogs?

How do I find blogs to link with?

Being in the wedding industry makes it easy to find blogs to link to. I always recommend starting local. Look up photographers, dress designers, caterers, etc in your area. See if any of them have blogs. If so, link to them, odds are they will notice your link right away and link back to your wedding planning blog.

If you find some great people to network with in your area, but notice they don't yet have a blog, suggest it to them. Offer to help them set their blog up. This is a sure fire way to get your link in some blogrolls.

How do I get people to link to my blog?

Finding blogs to link to your wedding planning blog is the easy part. Getting blogs to link back to yours is the hard part. Unlike exchanging links, it is bad form to add a link to your blogroll and then email that blog and ask them to do the same.

If you link to a blog there are a few ways to get links back to your wedding planning blog. Some bloggers will automatically add your blog to their blogroll for the sheer fact that you were kind enough to link to theirs. Others won't link back to your blog until they see that you are actually sending traffic to their blog.

Larger blogs are reluctant to add smaller blogs to their blogroll. A smaller blog links to a larger blog in hopes of getting traffic from them. This is called piggy backing. Thus many large blogs wont link back to you until you start sending them significant traffic.
