Wedding Tips: Packing For Your Honeymoon

Kristen May
As a chance for the new husband and wife to take a vacation and enjoy each other, the honeymoon is a very important time for the happy couple to begin their marriage on the right foot. Everything will go much more smoothly if the packing for the honeymoon wasn't done at the last minute, which could leave the bride and groom in a foreign country searching in stores for that one little thing they forgot.

Honeymoon Packing Tip: Know the Weather

If you are going to Greece in the middle of September, it would be wise to look up what the weather is like there at that time of year. In addition, don't only look at averages, but also at potential high and low temperatures in order to be prepared for not-quite-average weather. Both bride and groom should plan to bring clothing to be outside in the middle of the day and on chilly evenings.

Honeymoon Packing Tip: Discuss Activities that will Need Special Clothing

If you are planning to go out for a fancy dinner or two during the honeymoon, it might be good to have a fancy outfit that will not look out-of-place in the restaurant. For honeymoons on the beach, couples should consider bringing along snorkels and masks so they don't have to rent equipment daily and have it back to the rental station by a certain time.

Honeymoon Packing Tip: Make Checklists in Advance

At least 2 weeks before the wedding day, the bride and groom should sit down together and make packing checklists for their honeymoon. This is important to avoid their first married fight involving the "I thought you were going to do that" dilemma. Specifically, plan who is packing and bringing any items needed for birth control, and also other hygiene items such as toothpaste. The couple should also help each other to make a full checklist, and to request any special outfits that they would like the other to bring and wear.

Honeymoon Packing Tip: Put Essentials in a Carry-On

To avoid the disaster of losing luggage and having to spend a honeymoon in those pants and shirt you bought at a souvenir shop, it would be wise to pack a set of essential items in a carry-on suitcase. Make sure the bag is within the size required by the airline, and have at least one fancy outfit, at least one casual outfit, and any essential medications and personal care items. It is also important, with personal care items, to hold to the TSA airline restrictions on liquids.

Honeymoon Packing Tip: Consider Bringing Antibiotics

Especially if the honeymoon will be out of the country, it would be wise to ask your doctor for a prescription of basic antibiotics that you can fill and take with you. These come in handy for generic infections that can be common such as ear infections and bladder infections, and help you to avoid scrambling to find a doctor and get a prescription overseas.
