The main message of the toast is that you want to share with everyone at the wedding when you are giving a speech is that how happy you are for the person getting married and how much these people mean to you. A good speech will start off by thanking everyone for being there and making this day possible for the bride and groom.
The second part of the speech is telling some cute story about the couple. You don't want to embarrass the couple, but something cute and will bring a smile to everyone that is attending the wedding. Don't make this part of the speech x-rated. Keep it appropriate for everyone hearing your speech.
The third part of the speech is some advice for the newly married couple. If you have been married a long time you can add something personal from your life. Explain that there will be bad times and good times and how to overcome the bad times. You can give general advice here. Make it something that is meaningful and you can make it funny.
The last part of the speech would be to congratulate them and wish them the best for many years to come and wishing them that all their wishes will come true and that they grow old together.
Now since you know what makes a good speech, the hard part is what to write for each part. I would suggest taking time before the wedding to determine what you want to say. Write it down and reread it before giving it. You don't want to just stand up and start talking trying to make it up as you go along. Asking friends and parents for help will make this step easier for you. Finding out what others say at weddings will help you decide what you are going to say. The good news about speeches is that they are usually short 3-5 minutes. You don't want a long drawn out speech.
Wedding speeches are a memorable part of the wedding for the bride and groom. With some preparation you can have a great speech for them.
