Weeds Season 6 Episode 7 is Crazy Fun on the Run for Carnival-Bound Botwins

Andy the Leader in Weeds Episode 7? Not for Long

Tamara McRill
Weeds season 7 episode 6 opens with Caesar being questioned in the hospital, but it's all Botwin (plus Doug) fun from there. Andy gets a brief taste of being in charge, but Nancy leads them on another adventure. This stop for the family on the run just happens to be more mother-like, than drug maven.

*Spoilers follow

Andy the Leader--Will Follow Nancy Anywhere

In Caesar's stolen town car, Andy is lording it over Nancy what a bust Seattle was. Nancy acknowledges he is the guru of off the grid living and gives him leadership of their motley family. Andy's Rules of the Road are simple:

1. Keep moving.
2. No social interactions.

Doug is begs for a road name and settles on Ted, as opposed to the more insulting names Nancy suggests. The family stops for lunch and debates where to go next. Andy nixes any historic trails. Nancy freshens up in the diner bathroom, while going through Caesar's stolen wallet.

Spotting a Montana fair sign, Nancy's impulsiveness suggests that they go and have fun. Andy voices disapproval, as does Silas, but we all know that even when he's the leader, Nancy is in charge.

She wins the group over by pointing out the roller coaster attraction, which apparently was her dead husband Judah's 'thing.' The family reminisces on past roller coaster good times and decide to go.

Can the Botwins Have a Normal Family Outing?

Weeds season 6 episode 7 continues as they arrive at the fairgrounds. Pseudo-leader Andy preaches safety and value of being incognito. Nancy just wants her kids to have some normal childhood memories. About that...Shane is boasting to Silas about how he held a gun on Ignacio. Silas isn't impressed, but Shane just chalks it up to jealousy. He states (somewhat accurately) that he is now their mom's favorite son.

In what has to be an epic case of bad judgment, Nancy asks Doug to watch the baby. She obviously knows it's a bad idea, going over basic baby care info.

But the Botwins are quickly distracted by an RV. The recreational vehicle is a contest prize and the family is so psyched about it that Nancy is already planning where the nursery will be. That says volumes on the stability of their recent home life.

Even on a Mission, There Has to be Weed

Doug is carrying out his babysitter duties true to character. Smoking weed, conversing with a baby and contemplating what a rockin' carnie he would be.

Silas and Andy enter a butter sculpting contest to win the RV. Well, a butter sculpture eating contest. Yeah, they were surprised too. The only way to deal is to encourage an appetite with a little weed.

The only two not getting high are Nancy and Shane. Which is probably for the best since they are the least stable or rational. They are, however, having quite the criminal heart-to-heart. Shane asks his mom if it is cool to shoot someone. Nancy frowns upon all violence (don't forget she shot a dude with a crossbow last episode) and tells Shane she is worried about what he is becoming. She considers it her job as a mother to make sure he doesn't turn into a psychopath. The way he sees it, they are very similar.

Common Weeds Theme: Do What I Say, Not What I Do

Episode seven continues with Nancy and Shane standing in a roller coaster line. Shane is convinced no real outlaw would do that. Nancy admonishes him to learn respect and self control, but is drawn to act when a man butts in front of them and they lose their chance to ride.

Nancy proceeds to confront the man, telling him what he did was unacceptable and rude. When he refuses to feel bad or let them in line Nancy does what she does best. Create chaos. She gets a burly guy to also take offense, which triggers a huge crowd fight. Nancy and Shane sneak past and onto the ride.

The Botwins Win, But Still Screw Everything Up

Doug gives baby Stevie cotton candy and ice cream. He plays a game and decides to take the baby on a ride.

A stoned Andy feels a spiritual kinship to Silas, who reveals he plans to straighten up and go to college. Just don't tell mommy.

They are called to the butter eating contest. Silas lets Andy take the first bite. Somewhere in between Andy making out with his sculpture and vomiting, Silas manages to win the competition--and the RV.

Nancy and Shane are enjoying their ill-gotten ride, reinforcing the opposite of her lecture. She does make a token effort at mothering, telling Shane he should always try to do things the right way first. But she can't hide the fun she's having with her son.

Silas and Andy realize that they can't keep their prize, thanks to pesky forms that require too much information. To top it off, Silas would have to have his picture in the local paper.

Nancy finds Stevie's full bottle. A sure sign that Doug was a poor choice to watch the youngest Botwin.

Back on the road, Andy is mad that Nancy stole his authority and power. The RV drives past them as a huge road-hogging symbol of his failure as a leader.

Weeds Season 6 Episode 8

Previews for the next episode of Weeds have Randy being addressed as "pastor." There is an RV in the background, so perhaps they reclaimed Silas' prize. Nancy is feeling the need for a man and it looks like she may find it in a bossy, hair-pulling bartender.

Weeds season 6 episode 8 will premiere next Monday, at 9 p.m. central, on Showtime.
