Week 1 - RB Rankings

1. Chris Johnson - Ten = Oak
In what appears to be an excellent matchup for Johnson at home against a poor Raiders run defense, there is reason to believe in a week 1 stat line of 150 total yards and 2 touchdowns for Johnson. This type of matchup and likely stat production is exactly why so many fantasy teams drafted him #1 overall ahead of Adrian Peterson.

2. Adrian Peterson - Min = @NO
If I have to pick whether Peterson or Brett Favre will have a worse performance in this game against a likely fired up Saints defense in New Orleans, my money would be on Favre. So assuming Favre and the passing game is a bit off in this game, I would look for Peterson to receive oodles of touches. 100-150 total yards and 1-2 touchdowns is well within reach.

3. Frank Gore - SF = @Sea
With a solid matchup and health on his side to begin the season, Gore should be good for around 150 total yards and 1-2 touchdowns this week.

4. Ryan Matthews - SD = @KC
In his first career NFL game this week, Matthews could boast Pro-Bowl form as he has the potential to tally stats in the range of 100-150 total yards and 1-2 touchdowns. If your fantasy team is in need of large overall point potential, then it would not be crazy to start Matthews over Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore this week.

5. Maurice Jones-Drew - Jac = Den
The possible injury concern may be a bit daunting for fantasy football teams this week, but a home matchup against a so-so Denver defense that will be missing Elvis Dumervil, should allow Jones-Drew to post solid overall stats in this game. I would expect at least 100 total yards and 1 touchdown.

6. Ray Rice - Bal = @NYJ
No doubt an extremely tough matchup for Rice and the Ravens offense, but Rice is just too valuable in overall yardage terms to rank him any lower among fellow RBs. If your league is based more on touchdown scoring than yardage points, then I would be tempted to rank Rice a bit lower, because realistically I think 80-125 total yards is likely, but a touchdown will likely be hard to come by.

7. Rashard Mendenhall - Pit = Atl
With the Steelers quarterback situation not in great standing, Mendenhall should have a busy game day this week. The home field advantage also helps his cause against the Falcons defense, so I would look for numbers in the range of 80-100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.

8. DeAngelo Williams - Car = @NYG
With Jonathan Stewart once again nursing an injury, Williams should easily be the primary RB for the Panthers in this game. 100 total yards should be expected, and a touchdown is very possible as well.

9. Michael Turner - Atl = @Pit
As a touchdown stud, Turner could very easily have a hard time finding the endzone this week against a stout Steelers defense. Overall, I think Turner will only tally around 80 rushing yards with no touchdowns. However as usual, Turner has the potential to score if the Falcons offense can get the ball near the goal line, so with this in mind I just cannot rank him any lower.

10. Matt Forte - Chi = Det
A home game against a likely bad Lions run defense should allow Forte to kick start the 2010 season in a huge way. The comeback season for Forte begins with this game. It would not be surprising to see Forte bust out with at least 100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.

11. Steven Jackson - StL = Ari
If rookie Sam Bradford can hold his own in this game, Jackson could surprisingly see a bunch of running lanes against a so-so Cardinals defense this week. The home matchup should also help Bradford, so Jackson has a great chance at tallying 100-125 total yards, and a touchdown is also possible.

12. Arian Foster - Hou = Ind
As the lead man in the Texans backfield, Foster could be in store for a big game this week as the Colts run defense does not appear to be anything special. 100 total yards and 1 touchdown is well within reach for Foster, as he begins his trek for breakout stardom in fantasy football leagues this season.

13. Ryan Grant - GB = @Phi
Not a great matchup, but Grant is firmly entrenched in what should be an outstanding Green Bay offense this season, so a touchdown and plenty of yards are possible.

14. LeSean McCoy - Phi = GB
With the Packers defense looking downright horrible at stopping the run during their preseason games, it would not be surprising if McCoy ran all over the Packers this week.

15. Jahvid Best - Det = @Chi
Best is absolutely ready for takeoff this week after displaying excellent ability during the preseason.

16. Joseph Addai - Ind = @Hou
If Peyton Manning doesn't throw for 4 touchdowns in this game, then Addai could easily rush for 2 touchdowns if given the goal line duties. Overall Addai offers excellent point scoring potential this week if you are looking for a gamble that could pay a huge reward rather than a steady average.

17. Cedric Benson - Cin = @NE
With the Patriots defense just average to begin the season, Benson should be a workhorse in this game and could easily tally 30 touches.

18. Jerome Harrison - Cle = @TB

19. Beanie Wells - Ari = @StL
Love the matchup, but Wells will have a hard time getting TD opportunities with the much better ball securing Tim Hightower around.

20. CJ Spiller - Buf = Mia
As the starting RB in this game, Spiller should be able to post a solid rookie debut at home against an average Dolphins defense.

21. Jamaal Charles - KC = SD
Solid matchup for Charles and the Chiefs running game, but that also means Thomas Jones should tally a bunch of touches and yards as well.

22. Shonn Greene - NYJ = Bal
Tough matchup to begin the season, but Greene is good at pounding the ball so I would expect plenty of touches and all the goal line work if the Jets have any opportunities.

23. Thomas Jones - KC = SD
Seemingly anyone's guess as to whether Jones or Jamaal Charles will tally more yards and TD opportunities.

24. Tim Hightower - Ari = @StL
25. Ronnie Brown - Mia = @Buf
26. Carnell Williams - TB = Cle
27. Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG = Car
28. Pierre Thomas - NO = Min
