Week 2: 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Point Standings

After the second week of competition on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, points positions were swapped. Some drivers jumped up and some fell back. Other drivers find themselves in positions that they might find difficult to drive out of under NASCAR's newly implemented point system. The Busch Brothers find themselves on top of the standings with Kyle Busch leading the way and Kurt Busch trailing his younger brother by only three points.

Bad luck for Carl Edwards today in Phoenix shows in the points as he drops from the lead to 12th. Jeff Gordon's win combined with leading the most laps not only breaks his 66 race winless streak, but vaults him up to fifth in the standings. Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick also made gains on their bad showings at Daytona. The new points system assures that two or three bad races can make a difference in the season championship and only one point position can make all the difference when the Chase for the Championship rolls around.
