The Jets moved into the number two slot in the NFL Power Rankings. Although the Jets beat the Pats earlier in the season, they still rank slightly lower. They are probably ranked a little too high, but the NFL Power Ranking software just could not ignore the drubbing the Jets gave the Bills in Week 4. In addition, the Jets are 3-0 in the division, having both beat the Patriots and Miami. These wins are also helping the Jets' cause to be number two in the NFL Power Rankings.
The San Diego Chargers leapt from 7th to 3rd with a big win against the Arizona Cardinals. The Chargers have the stingiest defense, giving up the least amount of yards per game.
A number one team on many other NFL Power rankings last week, the Steelers took a loss, against the higher rated Ravens. So the Steelers stay at number 11. Look for the Steelers to climb the NFL Power ranks in Week 7 when Ben Roethlisberger returns.
The Redskins did not move from their number 22 rank despite beating the Eagles and knocking out Michael Vick. The NFL power ranking software did not like the loss the Redskins took against St Louis, and Donovan McNabb's sub par performance so far this year.
The only undefeated team left in the league are the Chiefs but they still come in as a middle of the pack team in the NFL Power Rankings. The Kansas City Chiefs made some headway this week, riding on the coatails of the San Diego Chargers big win. Kansas City will start to play some better teams in the coming weeks. If they win, look for them to come up more in the NFL Power Rankings to a position that reflects their record.
There are some new bottom dwelling teams of note for week 5 of the NFL Power Rankings. Detroit moves to last place, and is joined there by the Raiders and Bills. St. Louis improved to 2-2 and moved out of last place to number 28th. The Rams look like they might be a team on the rise.
JAMcLynne's NFL Power Rankings, Schedule and Picks for Week 5
Picked winners are in BOLD
Jacksonville Jaguars 64.32 at Buffalo Bills 38.66
The Buffalo Bills were embarrassed by the Jets in Week 4. The Bills probably will not be embarrassed by the Jaguars, but they should still lose. The only saving grace for this team is that they are playing at home, and if it is a cold day in Buffalo, the Bills may just may have a chance against the team from the Sunshine State
New York Giants 72.49 at Houston Texans 79.38
The New York Giants travel to Texas and face a hard test against the high flying Texan offence. The offense for the Texans are putting up some good numbers this year.
Denver Broncos 67.48 at Baltimore Ravens 89.35
Baltimore is coming off a tough win against the Steelers. Joe Flacco is starting to get hot and it should carry over when the Broncos visit the Ravens.
Chicago Bears 56.77 at Carolina Panthers 54.25
The Chicago Bears' offense is banged up after giving up nine sacks against the Giants. The Bears defense should play hard enough to come out with a win against the Panthers.
Green Bay Packers 73.67 at Washington Redskins 59.66
Washington is a hot and cold team this year. The Packers have played steady football all season, but have played against weak teams. They also gave up a loss against the average Chicago Bears. They should come away with a win against the Redskins, but look for Donovan McNaab make a game changing play or two.
Kansas City Chiefs 73.69 at Indianapolis Colts 82.92
The Kansas City Chiefs have been steadily climbing JAMcLynne's NFL Power Rankings all season long. On the other hand, the Colts have been dropping in the NFL Power rankings. This could be a swing game for the Chiefs, as they will be put to the test once again.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40.69 at Cincinnati Bengals 66.45
The bottom dwelling Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a bye week after getting spanked by the Steelers, and the Bengals lost to the Browns. Look for the Bengals to bounce back.
St Louis Rams 40.74 at Detroit Lions 34.77
A battle between the week 4 bottom dweller against the week 5 bottom dweller. Look for St. Louis to get another win under its belt, but the Lions may actually have a change at home in this game.
Atlanta Falcons 77.13 at Cleveland Browns 44.35
The Browns are still a bad team despite surprising the Bengals last week. The Browns rise two places to number 27th this week. They should go back to their losing ways when Matt Ryan and crew arrive.
New Orleans Saints 87.29 at Arizona Cardinals 61.62
The Saints have shown a little more weakness this year. They are heading to Phoenix to play and unpredictable Arizona Cardinals, but they Saints should come away with the win.
Tennessee Titans 66.09 at Dallas Cowboys 77.06
Dallas comes of a bye at home. A slightly weaker Titans should take a loss against the Cowboys.
San Diego Chargers 89.78 at Oakland Raiders 37.19
In a battle for California, the Chargers travel up the coast to play the Raiders. Chargers should win easily.
Philadelphia Eagles 83.47 I at San Francisco 49ers 46.8
The Eagles may ranking may be too high this week, it all hedges on Michael Vick playing the game. These numbers are based on Vick being in the lineup. If Kevin Kolb plays, then the Niners may actually have a chance at getting their first win of the season.
Minnesota Vikings 83.72 at New York Jets 91.44
Brett Favre and the Vikings come off a bye and take on the Jets at the the Meadowlands on Monday Night Football. This should be a close game with the Jets squeaking by due to home field advantage.
