Week of the Living Relatives

An Easter Story

Joanna Lopez
I woke up to find them all surrounding me.
They arrive all at once, with another gigantic Tsunami wave arriving in
the middle of the week.
They consist of four children, three large dogs, and eleven adults.
Fifteen people and they all expect us to make room for them.
Thier eyes clouded over with cataracts.
Their long arms stretch out to grab at me.
A low mournful moan escapes from their mouths forcing me to join them in their commune familial chain gang.
I take a breath, letting it out slowly and kiss and hug my relatives back asking them how they all are.
I try to make conversation but the conversation always ends up about the family who couldn't come for Easter.
I love them all dearly but.... OH GOD, HELP ME! My family is here for Easter.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

P.S. This is satirical I love my family... really.

It may be satire, but for many it's probably all too true!
