The film premiered in July of 1989, so the 90's were almost on the sunrise.
While working for a big firm in New York, Larry and Richard (McCarthy and Silverman) discover a shady plot involving multiple life insurance payments. Bernie (Terry Kiser), who is Larry and Richard's boss, compliments both of them for having discovered this plot. Little does Larry and Richard know that Bernie himself is behind the life insurance fraud.
Bernie arranges for both Larry and Richard to come spend the weekend at his beach house, and arranges for one of his goons to murder both Larry and Richard while they spend the weekend with him. Unbeknownst to Bernie, this thug is taking orders from a higher up who wants Bernie dead. When Paulie (played by Stephen LeFayt ) shows up at Bernie's beach house; Bernie thinks he's there to kill Larry and Richard but in fact kills him instead (he injects Bernie with poison and he dies).
This is when the comedy really starts. After Larry and Richard realize Bernie is dead (they think he died of a drug overdose); Larry and Richard come to the realization that no one is really aware-that Bernie is dead! In fact, people talk to Bernie, even go as far as to have sex with him, and-nobody knows he's dead. Since Larry and Richard are very young and only want to have a good time; Larry and Richard decide not to call the police and just play along with Bernie's friends who think he's still alive. Beautiful women show up at Bernie's pad...Richard is also trying to romance a co-worker (played by Catherine Mary Stewart)...the movie ends when Pauli returns to Bernie's house thinking that with all the commotion taking place: Bernie has to still be alive....
This film is very entertaining...not a dull moment!
