The beaches in Daytona are always open and always free. You can easily access the beach from any of the plethora of hotels, condos, and resorts lining A1A (the main drag along the island). Depending on the tide that day, cars are also allowed on the beach in select locations from sunrise to sunset. This opens up the opportunity for a fun-filled day at the beach. You can sit and soak up the sun's rays or rent a boat or jet-ski to enjoy the Atlantic. Dolphins can be seen jumping the waves at dawn and dusk. On Saturday nights in the summer, you can catch a fireworks display at the pier on Main Street with the ocean playing the soundtrack.
A trip to Daytona would not be complete without a visit to the Daytona 500 Experience. For a reasonable admission fee, you can see historic cars and facts about motor sports. There is a 3D IMAX theater that plays out the start of stock car racing. You can compete in NASCAR trivia with other guests. There is also a guided tour that takes you onto the race track. For more racing fun, a trip to the Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room provides a day's worth of entertainment.
A short drive south of Daytona is Ponce Inlet. This town is home to America's third tallest lighthouse. You can climb all 208 steps to the top of the lighthouse and get a great view of the island and ocean. The lighthouse is surrounded by the original buildings that serve as museums detailing what life was like in the early days of America. In the town of Port Orange is a must-try restaurant named Aunt Catfish On the River. While you wait you can listen to live music and enjoy the river. We saw children practically pulling fish out of the river. They have a full hot and cold buffet with your entrée and the cinnamon rolls are delicious.
This is only a sampling of what Daytona Beach has to offer. There is a petting zoo in Ormond Beach just north of Daytona Beach, lots of shopping at Volusia Mall and the many shops at the pier, and golf and miniature golf to enjoy. For a family looking for a fun weekend getaway, there a numerous possibilities in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Post a CommentAs for your comment, Thor, I must say to each his own. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Who writes this rubbish? I have summed up this story and edited it for accuracy as follows: People with a child's mentality *might* enjoy a torturous weekend in the Daytona Beach area. Then again, so might a Masochist. See- you actually have to pay hard earned money for this trash.
Which brings me to my running, and ever so brutally apparent point- The City Commission have, it would seem purposefully destroyed virtually all the potential of Daytona Beach and have monumentally failed the tax payers who are forced to live here.'Forced' as very few in their right mind would move to such a black hole of intelligence and worth and hence, property values are no longer existent. Thank your tax and over paid City Commission for this people and don't forget- it takes incredibly hard work to fail so miserably in the commission of one's duty.
