Weekend Getaway in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Jane Vee
Everyone needs an escape now and then. If you are looking for a quaint country resort, look no further than Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Have a quiet weekend escape staying in a cabin for two or go out on the town.
With Gatlinburg less than 30 minutes away couples can find tranquility in the mountains or enjoy attractions.

Eagle Ridge Resort is nestled in the heart of the Smokey Mountains. The resort is truly an escape. The cabins are quaint and efficiently furnished with a Jacuzzi and hot tub. Whether it is for a romantic getaway or a family escape, Pigeon Forge is the place to go. The cabins are nicer than hotel rooms because you feel like you are at home. There is a drawback, the cabins are close together so if you get a loud neighbor you may not be able to relax. This is also true at hotels, though.

Depending on what you are looking for where you stay, you may choose to spend the extra money for a one bedroom cabin instead of a hotel room. The cabins start around $129 a night for a one bedroom. The cabins are furnished like a house would be. So you do have all the conveniences of home plus a Jacuzzi, hot tub, and fireplace. The resort even offers television in the cabins and there is a pool to relax around.

If you love Christmas, one of the best times to go to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area is December. During December the town is lit up with beautiful Christmas decorations and lights. I have never seen another town that celebrates with lights to this extent. The decorations are hung by public organizations along the streets, in the park, and around town. Businesses and individuals also decorate their property. It is a truly gorgeous place that feels like Christmas and you will even want to walk the street just to enjoy the atmosphere.

If you are a car buff, a great time of year to go to Pigeon Forge is September. There is a car show the second and third week of September that causes a traffic jam the likes of that little town only sees once a year. The main street is blocked by cars that are participating in the car show. No one ever seems to mind the traffic jam. Tourism is what keeps these two towns going.

If you are interested in hiking or skiing, the Smokey Mountains offer excellent trails for the beginner to the experienced. If you are interested in fall foliage, you can travel the parkway. This is also an excellent way to see the wildlife.

To get to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg, you will need to drive. The nearest airport is in Knoxville and is a 40 minute drive. There are no shuttles to take you from the airport to the hotels. A car would have to be rented. This weekend getaway will easily cost $600. Depending on length of stay, the size of the cabin, and means of transportation the trip will be under $1500.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is my top choice for a weekend getaway. When you are looking for solitude with the one you love there is nothing better than a mountain retreat. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life is not easy unless you go to the mountains of Tennessee.

I've passed through that area, but never stayed. I heard it's nice - similar to Branson.
