Weekend Getaways Just a Few Hours from Chicago

Dee Dee Smith
Chicago is a very popular vacation destination for many. Nevertheless, if you live there, you still at times want to take a vacation and get away from the cares of your daily life. Sometimes getting away to somewhere fresh and new is just what you need. After a long weekend get away, you return home rested, refreshed and rejuvenated. Take off a Friday and/or Monday to give you that long weekend, and don't go through the hassle of making airline reservations, or scheduling the rail. Just hop in your car and head to one of these destinations. They are all just a few hours drive from Chicago.

Family

Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, IL - You might not think of taking the children to a spa, but the Eaglewood Resort is a treat for both adults and children. The Eaglewood offers the standard amenities of a four diamond resort - a peaceful/serene environment, luxurious suites, spa treatments and posh amenities. In addition however, there are many fun and recreational activities for the family to enjoy including a private bowling alley, skylit heated indoor pool, golf course, crafts, finger painting, basketball and bean bag toss, and many other activities.

Wisconsin Dells, WI - The city of Wisconsin Dells offers attractions and activities for the entire family. You can choose to stay at a resort like the Atlantis Waterpark Hotel and Suites, or to rent a cabin or cottage for your extended weekend. During your getaway, your family can visit several different waterparks, take a boat tour, enjoy live entertainment like magic shows, comedy clubs and dinner theaters, great skiing, snowtubing and golf, and much more.

Romance/Quiet Seclusion

The Herrington Inn And Spa Hotel in Geneva, IL - This four star diamond hotel offers luxurious rooms with a European flair. Added amenities include rooms that overlook the Fox River, canopy beds, fireplaces, heated marble floors and oversized tubs; everything needed for a private weekend or romantic get-away. Relieve stress at the spa, go bike riding, or dine at The Herrington's Four Diamond Restaurant, the Atwater.

Kohler, WI - We all know the name Kohler. You might even have their products in your kitchen and/or bathroom. Founded by Walter Kohler, former President of the Kohler company, the village of Kohler was designed with the concept of a garden city and peaceful retreat. Kohler is also home to the midwest's only five star diamond hotel, the American Club. Relax with a couples massage at the Kohler Water Spa, attend the hotel's wine and cheese tasting, take a romantic walk through the botanical gardens, or spend the entire weekend in your room.

Golf Get-Aways

Lake Geneva, WI - If you are looking for a great golf challenge, Lake Geneva is your place. Four of the "toughest" rated golf courses in Wisconsin and three of the "best new courses" (rated by Golf Digest) make their home in Lake Geneva. I'd suggest staying at the Grand Geneva Resort (home of the Brute, one of the toughest golf courses) or the Abbey Resort overlooking Lake Geneva and centrally located near all of the favorite golf courses.
