"The Green Hornet" won the four-day movie box office for the weekend of January 14th-17th 2011. The superhero movie featuring Seth Rogen raked in $40 million at the box office, according to Rentrak Corporation's theatrical box office statistics, as reported by filmofilia and boxofficemojo. The Green Hornet nearly doubled the weekend revenue of the second highest revenue generating movie, "The Dilemma". Both movies opened this weekend. "The Dilemma" stars Vince Vaughn and Kevin James and is directed by Ron Howard, so the movie's debut was somewhat of a disappointment.

"The Dilemma" raked in $21.1 million at the box office during the long MLK weekend. "True Grit", last week's king of the box office slipped to third place with $13.1 million in weekend gross movie revenue, despite starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin. "The King's Speech", at 4th with $11.1 million revenue actually increased 74% in revenue from the prior week when it ranked 9th at the box office. Director Darren Aronofsky's "The Black Swan", starring Natalie Portman, rounded out the top five weekend revenue generating movies with $10.3 million. With a 27% increase in revenue from the prior week, "The Black Swan" was the only adult movie apart from "The King's Speech" to increase in revenue from the previous week. Children's movies "Yogi Bear" and "Tangled" also increased in revenue from the prior weekend, but that's to be expected with an extra day, such as MLK day, when kids are more available to attend matinee movies.

Ranking 6th through 12th in box office revenue for the four-day MLK weekend were "Little Fockers" ($8.4 million), "Yogi Bear" ($7.4), "Tron Legacy" ($6.8), "The Fighter "($6.2), "Tangled" ($5.4) "Season of the Witch" ($5,3), and "Country Song" ($4.4).

Amongst movies in the top ten at the box office this weekend, a few were rewarded with Golden Globe Awards Sunday night. Colin Firth won Best Actor, Drama for his role in "The King's Speech," Natalie Portman won Best Actress, Drama for her role as a ballerina in "The Black Swan," Christian Bale was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and Melissa Leo received the award for Best Supporting Actress, both for their work in "The Fighter." The Black Swan was interesting, but not that fun to watch. True Grit was VERY well-done!
