The Scripps Birch Aquarium is a great place to visit on a weekend trip to La Jolla, California. For more interesting marine life, travel just south of the La Jolla Cove to the "Children's Pool," where you will find a protected cove full of sea lions. Farther south of La Jolla Cove are the Marine Street and Wind 'n Sea beaches. The Wind 'n Sea beach was featured in Tom Wolfe's book "The Pump House Gang." As you drive south from the beaches, you will come upon Camino De La Costa, where many of the oceanfront homes sell of upwards of 20 million dollars. The street itself has become known as "the street of dreams" because of the beautiful ocean views and high home prices.

Because of its popularity as a tourist destination, there are several hotels to choose for your weekend trip to La Jolla, California. There are only two hotels right on the beaches of La Jolla: The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club or the Sea Lodge. If you would rather stay in the middle of town, try the Grande Colonial Inn or the historic Hotel La Valencia. For fine dining, try George's At the Cove, which has become a local favorite. Excellent Italian food can be found at Manhattan of La Jolla. Zenbu offers a wide selection of delicious fresh seafood. If you are looking for a great breakfast, Harry's Coffee Shop is somewhat of a La Jolla, California landmark. Younger crowds may enjoy the energy and entertainment of Jack's in La Jolla.

Outdoor activities are plentiful on a weekend trip to La Jolla, California. Of course, the most popular are water sports like surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and fishing. The La Jolla Cove is an excellent place to go snorkeling or diving, with many rental companies available so you do not need to buy any expensive diving equipment. Remember to respect the natural environment on your expeditions through the Cove. It is against the law to remove or disturb the wildlife in the La Jolla Cove.
