Front Man Escapes Death

The Weezer bus crash, on a Sunday morning, was a result of black ice, as reported at NYmag.com. It left the lead singer of the alternative rock group, Rivers Cuomo, with three cracked ribs. His assistant was left with two fractured ribs and fractures to her lower vertebra. Como's wife and daughter were unharmed. The members of the bus were trapped inside until paramedics and firefighters showed up on the scene to remove them. The December tour dates for the group have been canceled.

Bus travel comes with risks

The members of the Weezer bus crash escaped death. As reported at the Weezer website, "The driver employed every ounce of skill he had in fighting to keep the bus upright, as the vehicle violently fishtailed over the highway." The bus hit black ice, which is freezing rain that has hit the road and spread out into a thin layer. This layer is clear and blends in with the color of the road, hence the term "black ice." A motorist will think that they are about to hit a wet spot in contrast to an icy spot. Once a motorist his black ice, there's little to no possibility of traction or breaking.

A tour bus is a common mode of transportation for many musicians. However, the chances of an accident will be greater. The latest bus accident for a musician happened to one of the Miley Cyrus clan. In the crash, her bus driver died. Although there have been many musicians who have died in airplane crashes, flying is safer than driving a car or a bus.

The Weezer bus crash results in cancellation of December tour dates; What does that mean for Weezer?

Cuomo and his assistant are in for a long road of healing, which makes it impossible for December tour dates. As reported on their website, they have no information about refunds. Worse, many ticket venues do not allow refunds no matter the reason. Will this keep Weezer fans away from future tours? It's unlikely. Weezer canceled the dates due to no fault of their own. Fans, therefore, are likely to forgive and join in unison in hopes that their front man is back on stage soon.

That is horrible. I know what black ice feels like. Once I took a tour with tours4fun.com from New York to Washington DC and the bus hit a patch of black ice, it slid a bit and some people fell out of their seats. It was terrifying. I'm glad to hear that nobody was fatally injured, I'm a huge fan of Weezer, they pretty much dominate most of my playlist.

This makes me shiver as my son also travels in a tour bus most of the year.

A terrible experience, but sounds like they're fortunate it didn't turn out worse.
