Weezer Bus Crashes, December Tour Canceled

The Weezer bus crash, on a Sunday morning, was a result of black ice, as reported at NYmag.com. It left the lead singer of the alternative rock group, Rivers Cuomo, with three cracked ribs. His assistant was left with two fractured ribs and fractures to her lower vertebra. Como's wife and daughter were unharmed. The members of the bus were trapped inside until paramedics and firefighters showed up on the scene to remove them. The December tour dates for the group have been canceled.

Bus travel comes with risks

As reported at the Weezer website, "The driver employed every ounce of skill he had in fighting to keep the bus upright, as the vehicle violently fishtailed over the highway." The bus hit black ice, which is freezing rain that has hit the road and spread out into a thin layer. This layer is clear and blends in with the color of the road, hence the term "black ice."
