Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Vs ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter

T. H. Pankey
The lil' lady says, "peanut butter is a guy thing." I tell her, "hey, dogs love it, too!" Good thing we don't have a dog or else we'd go through a lot of peanut butter in our house. It's bad enough that this review is a result of my momentary lapse in memory, in that I purchased another jar of organic peanut butter when I had one already at the house. Regardless, since its just now turned into an opportunity to compare the two organic peanut butters: Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter and ShopRite Organic Peanut Butter.

Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Vs ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter (Price)

Ironically, Wegmans, generally, commands higher prices than ShopRite. Yet, ShopRite private label organic chunky peanut butter costs more than Wegmans private label organic chunky peanut butter: ShopRite $3.49; Wegmans $2.99-both 16 ounces. Perhaps, ShopRite ought to consider packaging its peanut butter in a cheaper glass jar so that it's priced about the same as Wegmans.

Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Vs ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter (Taste)

Then again, the price may be a reflection of its better taste. The organic chunky peanut butter on which ShopRite puts its name tastes better than the organic chunky peanut butter on which Wegmans puts its name. Why would one private label taste better than the other? Possibly, it tastes better because, to start, its made from higher quality peanuts. Not to be dismissed is that it is packaged in a glass jar, which keeps the peanut butter fresher than if it were in a plastic container. Comparatively, Wegmans brand is packaged in a plastic container.

A number of variables, including as-of-yet mentioned ones, sandwich together when piecing together why ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter tastes better than Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter. No matter all things considered, still, on this day, ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter tastes considerably better than Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter.

Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Vs ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter (Ingredients)

I know what you're thinking: "Why would you dig up the ingredients? It's just peanuts, right? And, maybe, another ingredient or two?"

Actually, that's exactly why I chose to include the ingredients: it's not just peanuts. One of the brands, Wegmans, has more than just peanuts and, perhaps, another ingredient or two. It was somewhat surprising to me, and after seeing the difference in ingredients it gave pause to another reason why ShopRite Organic Peanut Butter tasted considerably better than Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter.

ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Ingredients: organic dry roasted peanuts, sea salt.

Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Ingredients: organic peanuts, organic palm oil, organic sugar, sea salt.

Seeing the ingredients reminded me that Wegmans Organic Peanut Butter, indeed, was oily to me upon first using it, even after stirring well before use. Also, despite the added palm oil, because of its plastic jar, it didn't keep as well as ShopRite Organic Peanut Butter.

Why does the Wegmans brand even have sugar in its peanut butter? It surely doesn't make it taste better.

Wegmans Organic Chunky Peanut Butter Vs ShopRite Organic Chunky Peanut Butter (Conclusion)

While it is true, perception, real or imagined, influences opinion, the glass jar ShopRite uses for its organic chunky peanut butter, compared to the plastic container Wegmans uses for its organic chunky peanut butter, really does make a difference in how well it keeps and tastes. Even though ShopRite Organic Peanut Butter costs more enough so as to mention it, it's one of those products in this world that you actually get more when paying more-better packaging, better taste and it keeps better. Shelling these two chunky peanut butters and piecing together this comparison was fun, a little sticky but yummy fun nonetheless!

My daughter's a real health food nut, and tried to foist this off on her toddlers, who promptly announced they "didn't like healthy peanut butter." My daughter assures me it's delicious.

I've never tried either of these. Thanks for the review.

I've never tried any of the organics on the market today, but this reminded me of the times Mom splurged and bought homemade peanut butter at the 'butter' store. It was the best! They made it fresh and packed it in a cardboard container (think pint of ice cream) when you ordered it at the counter. It was always oily at the top and had to be stirred, but it was the best I've ever eaten.
