Weight Concerns and Your Toddler

Are You Concerned with Your Toddlers Weight?

Laura Fleenor
With the growing concern of childhood obesity, parents should take the proper steps needed to ensure that their toddler is not overeating, or eating the wrong foods. In our modern society, fast food restaurants have become an outlet for working class citizens to feed their families. Sadly, with all of our busy lifestyles, and home where both parents are required to work, often times their families nutrition suffers.

It is crucial that you instill good eating habits in your children at a very young age in order to keep them healthy. It is much harder to get older children to change their eating habits after they become overweight, after several years of having poor eating habits, than it is to continuously feed your children healthy foods from the beginning of their lives.

If a pediatrician has showed immense concern over your toddler's continual weight gain, you must do something about the situation right away. Take a look into all the foods that you are feeding your toddler, and take the proper steps to correct the problem. Allowing your child to become obese at this young age, is giving them a life sentence of obesity, and possibly eventual early death.

When your child needs a snack, give him snacks that are healthy, and you have nothing to worry about. Your child can eat all the vegetables they want, and it will not cause them to become obese. Make sure that the fruit juice that you are giving to your child does not have additives such as sugar. You want your child to eat things that are as close to nature as possible.

A toddler does not need to be introduced to candy. Candy and other "sweets" are a major factor in childhood obesity, and are not needed in our daily lives. Grapes, strawberries and raisins are great alternatives to giving your child candy or sweets. Many young children will even behave badly if they have poor eating habits that include a lot of "sweets" or candies.

It is your responsibility to feed your children nutritious foods to keep them healthy, and instill good eating habits. Use fast food restaurant as an absolute last resort to feeding your family. Your toddlers cannot eat fatty junk foods and candies, if you do not purchase them. Steer clear of the junk food aisles in your local grocery stores, and you will be doing your family a great justice.

Excellent article Laura! Exactly like you said, it is easier to instill good eating habits while children are young, than to try and repair the damage later.
