Certain ingredients are actually quite harmful to the human body.
Weight lifting supplement products that comprise of Androstenedione (produces the ketosteroid Androsterone; the testosterone-resembling and less-active androgenic hormone) is a good example. Though it's permitted legally and used by professional athletes, Androsterone actually hampers the build of muscles. There has been no muscle strength difference at all, compared to others on a placebo. The withdrawal symptoms also need to be taken into account. Since the body gets used to the weight lifting supplement products, it results in addiction to gamma-butyrolactone (GBL). Deprivation brings forth hallucinations, paranoid delusions and other similar deranged vital signs, for which, emergency care could be required.
But that doesn't mean every weight lifting supplement is bad, or doesn't follow health guidelines. There are weight lifting supplement that help to develop size, strength and overall muscle power. But to utilize these weight lifting supplement properly and to continue building the muscles, weight lifters must adhere to three synergistic principles incorporated into their respective weight-training programs.
Quality nutrition works best when combined with intelligent weight training. With adequate resting, the results can easily double. A good weight lifting supplement needs to feed the body with the right amount of nutrients, apart from steadily pushing up the calories. Increased calorie intake produces a caloric surplus that fuels growth in muscle size and strength.
However, weight lifting supplements also demand proper eating habits, and real food with the right calories is always the most essential. This stores the extra calories in the system and helps the food supplement to pump more glycogen into the bloodstream. More glycogen means more strength during any given routine.
Now, the ingredients in a good weight lifting supplement is what makes or breaks the product. Available individually and remaining within the top favorite weight lifting supplements are: Protein powder, Creatine, Phytonutrients, Essential Fatty Acids, and Multivitamins. These prove to be convenient sources for the body to get its daily nourishment. The minimum dose is 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight daily; while food can supply the same thing, but it requires greater quantities to be consumed. A glass of protein drink just makes the process easier. Creatine improves protein synthesis and decreases its breakdown to increase lean muscle mass for greater strength. Phytonutrients - the antioxidants - like carotenoids, polyphenols and chlorophyll protect from free radical damage by bolstering the immune system. Its other functions are detoxification and providing nourishments it.
The essential Fatty Acids are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids that are good for the body. These are what that counter aging, tones circulatory function,
re-build skin, stimulates brain function, strengthens digestive support and boosts the immune system. However, it's not that your body needs all the weight lifting supplements described above, but certain weight lifting supplement like vital nutrients (e.g. multivitamins) can be had without any deficiency showing. These weight lifting supplements help the body avoiding problems like nerve damage, weakened bones and cardiac diseases.
These are just some of the ingredients that go into a good supplement. Choosing the right ones should always be done with the right amount of research.
