Weight Loss May Be as Easy as 2 Glasses of Milk Every Day
Research Shows that Calcium in Dairy Products Helps Folks Lose Weight
Research Shows You Can Lose Weight Without Drastically Cutting Back on Food
This is no "magic pill' solution to losing all that weight. Calories and the amount of food consumed still matter, but the research shows that those obese folks who consumed a diet high in dairy products were able to lose significantly more weight than those folks on a similar, low-calorie diet. They ate basically the same diet, but those eating more dairy lost more weight faster.
Earlier studies proved that calcium-rich diets were already a major factor in controlling how the body handles calories in helping people to lose weight. This research study was supported by the National Dairy Council and was published in Obesity Research back in April of 2004. But it's more than just calcium in the dairy products that help folks lose weight.
Consumption of Calcium and Weight Loss
Calcium is more readily stored and efficiently used when it's ingested through consumed foods. Dairy products happen to be rich in calcium. Studies show that calcium has the unique ability to help break down the fat in fat cells. Apparently dairy products have an as yet unexplained effect on losing weight.
But it may not be just the calcium working alone. Researchers have said there are a variety of mechanisms and processes that may be working together to produce this weight loss. Some of the minerals found in dairy products like phosphorous and magnesium may enhance calcium's breakdown of fat.
Don't Go Crazy With Dairy
There's an old saying derived from the teachings of Aristotle that encourages "moderation in all things." In other words, just because dairy is rich in calcium is no reason to do a swan dive into a vat of chocolate chunk ice cream. Remember that the ultimate goal of weight loss is to burn more calories than you take in.
Be sure to choose low-fat varieties of dairy products, perhaps a low-fat, sugar-free ice cream, skim milk, or low-fat yogurt would be good, lower calorie choices for those folks wanting to continue to lose weight. Research shows that dairy products and calcium can indeed help folks lose weight.
