If you find that you cannot seem to lose the weight and keep it off, and you have made all the appropriate lifestyle changes, then you may be a candidate for weight loss surgery.
The main idea of weight loss surgery
The procedures vary, but for the most part, they are all methods of shrinking the stomach. This is turn makes you feel full with less food. Which causes your caloric intake to decrease and you lose weight.
Some procedures involve removal of a portion of the stomach and others involve blocking off part of the stomach. Most often, the surgery is permanent, that means there is no going back, once it is done, it cannot be undone and you are stuck with it for the rest of your life
The risks of weight loss surgery
Stating the obvious, there are many hazards to surgery, there are all sorts of complications that can arise from surgery. These range from the pain of recovery, discomfort, and scarring, to the more serious complications of infection disability, and death.
These side effects should be considered carefully before you make the decision to undergo weight loss surgery. You absolutely need to know that the benefits outweigh the risks.
Weight loss surgery is a major decision
Only if you are really serious about weight loss surgery should you get it done. If you have truly tried other weight loss programs, and made the correct lifestyle changes and they did not work for you, then you may consider weight loss surgery.
The surgery is a drastic lifestyle change; it forces you to eat less. If you cannot control your eating, then you will hurt yourself because your stomach will be much smaller. You risk rupturing your stomach, and that is a serious medical condition that would result in death, and requires more surgery to repair the damage.
You can lose weight with weight loss surgery, as it does cause you to make the lifestyle changes that you may not have made, or been willing to make on your own. It is like instant will power, as now you have no choice but to eat less.
A final warning, if you do get the weight loss surgery, and do not make the correct lifestyle changes like regular exercise and balanced nutrition, even with a smaller stomach you could regain the weight and be right back to where you were before the surgery. Make sure you are ready for the major lifestyle change and consult with your doctor many times before you have the surgery.
