Managing A Healthy Diet.
A healthy diet is the first step you need to take towards managing your weight. A thing that all good healthy diets will follow is the food pyramid. The food pyramid shows that your diet should consist mainly of things like bread, rice, cereal and pasta. All of these foods contain good carbohydrates which can be easily burned off as energy, opposed to fatty foods which can be much harder to burn off. Fruit and vegetables are also essential in a healthy diet as they provide many beneficial nutrients and vitamins, and the best thing about fruit and vegetables is that you can feel free to eat as much as you like. Most common fruit and vegetables are guilt-free food and bananas can also help fight off things like depression! The next group up the food pyramid is meat and dairy. When buying dairy products it is best to choose the low-fat varieties, but also take careful note of the sugar content too. Good dairy foods are things such as yogurt and reduced-fat milk, where as some of the dairy foods you should avoid are things like Ice-cream and too much cheese. As for meat, your best options are the lean meat varieties such as fish and poultry. For vegetarians you will need to substitute meat for things such as nuts, eggs and beans which have high protein content. The last group in the food pyramid is fats, oils and sweets. These types of foods should be avoided whenever possible, however having them in small amounts on special occasions is allowed. Eating healthy is a key step in losing weight. Many people may try eating less (which can cause you to have severe cravings, and slow down your metabolism.) or choose to follow a notorious "fad" diet. It's not about how much you eat, it's about what you eat!
Maintaining Regular Exercise.
In combination with a healthy diet, regular exercise will help you to manage your weight with full control. For some the first thing that will come to mind after mentioning the word "Exercise" will be things such as going for a long jog, or straining through a painstaking workout, when in reality this is not the case! Exercise can be as little as going for a brisk 10 minute walk or even vacuuming the house or mowing the lawn. Most of us in fact exercise in a least some way throughout our daily lives. The important thing to note however is that we must maintain a regular amount of exercise daily. A really basic routine for anyone starting out may involve doing 10 sit-ups, 10 push-ups and a brisk 10 minute walk around the park. Being able to commit to your exercise routine may prove to be a challenge, so it is best to keep it realistic but still effective and having things like an exercise buddy (Someone to exercise with.) can be a great way to get yourself motivated! Your body will naturally burn off energy throughout the day doing things like breathing or pumping blood around your body. Knowing this we can try to keep our bodies moving in some way even whilst sitting or doing another activity so that we can assist our bodies to burn off energy. Simple things like tapping your foot or tensing a muscle over and over are great passive ways to burn off extra energy!
Whilst it is important to manage your weight it is also important to remember that weight does not dictate your level of fitness. You can be slightly overweight and still be perfectly fit and healthy, it's all a matter of knowing your own body and what is best for it. If you're feeling down about your weight it is best to remember that being confident and positive about your own self image is far more important than a healthy diet and regular exercise, as being in a positive, optimistic and motivated state of mind is the ultimate way to true well-being. I hope this advice has been helpful and good luck to everyone in attaining their weight managing goals and remember that this is only a guide, not professional advice.
