Weight Watchers: Inpexpensive Snacks to Keep You on Program

You Don't Have to Break the Bank to Enjoy a Low Point Snack

S.B.
If you are following the weight watchers program or any type of diet, you know that there is a hefty price tag on most diet snacks. The special diet ice cream can cost up to $8.00 a box. Being on a diet and eating tasty snacks doesn't have to cost a small fortune. I am going to share with you my low point snack ideas.

One of the easiest snacks to make is sugar free gelatin. Sure, you can buy it in those nifty plastic cups - but it costs too much that way! You can buy a box of sugar free gelatin and make it yourself for so much less. You can top it with fresh fruit, yogurt or even fat free whipped topping. A serving of sugar free gelatin is zero points! I bought some reusable plastic containers with lids to package my own up for when I am at work.

Another super snack idea is the fake ice cream sandwich. You can take a low fat graham cracker or a reduced fat cookie like a Nilla wafer and put a dab of fat free whipped topping in the middle of it. Just place it in the freezer for a little while and the whipped topping will harden up. It is a pretty good "fake" ice cream sandwich - depending on the brand of fat free whipped topping and the graham cracker used - you can create one of these for about two points.

You can even make your own tasty pie and stay on program! Just select a low fat yogurt and a sugar free gelatin flavor that go together. I've made a key lime pie version and a strawberry version before and both were super yummy! You can pick up some reduced fat graham crackers and crush them up to make a crust. You would prepare gelatin as you normally do and then add the yogurt flavor to the slightly cooled gelatin. You would pour the mixture into your pie crust and let it set in the refrigerator. Depending on the ingredients you use, you can have a slice of this for 2 to 3pts!

I've had a lot of success taking a low calorie fruit juice or a low fat yogurt and freezing it up into little popsicles. These make a great treat and they take a while to eat leaving you feeling satisfied. You can even buy the little reusable ice pop makers at most stores now. Or you can use paper cups with Popsicle sticks or stick a small spoon in them to form a handle.

Enjoy my easy to make low point snack ideas. You'll find that if you get creative with your snacks, you can create so many of them that are low in points, taste great and are inexpensive to make!
