The handout at the scale called the "Weight Watchers Weekly" for January 9-15 has three topics on the cover: Get the Power, Eat Hearty and Running on Empty?
The Eat Hearty section is from Associate Editor, Jamie Gerardi, a guy who prefers a big lunch to a big dinner. He gave us an example of his ultimate sandwich with 10 PointsPlus value consisting of: two slices of whole wheat bread, sliced raw onions, tomato, slices of avocado and 3 ounces of sliced turkey with Dijon mustard. Now maybe you don't need a sandwich that hearty to fill you up, but one thing I found is that it is a great way to eat more veggies. Wanting a quick meal one evening; my sister and I went to Burger King and ordered Whopper Juniors with double the veggies and no mayo, PointsPlus value was only 7 without the mayo and 9 with! Two points for mayonnaise -- I think not! I have never seen anyone at any barbeque putting mayo on their hamburger, so why should we take whatever these fast food establishments hand us?
The Get the Power section gave us ways to make our meals more satisfying without adding extra PointsPlus values. There is a recipe for Irish stew called Thyme and Vegetable Lamb Stew. I am not a fan of lamb, but the recipe looked like a winner with lots of veggies and using fat-free chicken broth to make the stock.
Running on Empty? deals with exercising on an empty stomach. It is recommended that you do not do this. By exercising on an empty stomach one does not have sufficient intake to burn calories properly. They recommend that you have fuel up about an hour or two before exercising and choose something mostly carbs and some protein.
