Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes Vs. Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef

Comparing Pre-packaged Foods

Weight Watcher's Smart Ones Frozen meals and Stouffer's pre-packaged Frozen meals are relatively close to each other on the weight management scale. Both offer meals proportionately sized according to calories and both are designed to fill the belly but which one is the better choice? Here is my comparison of Weight Watcher's Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes and Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes vs. Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef Review: Taste.

Between the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and the creamy chipped the chipped beef won hands down. I expected the cream to be bland but it surprised me in that it was full of flavor.

The meatloaf in comparison was not all that great. It was rather thick and somewhat stringy. Had Weight Watchers chosen to put a simple brown gravy over it, it might have been better. What they are calling brown gravy really tastes like tomato juice. The mashed potatoes were alright. They were very light on flavor and if it weren't for the salt I added to them they may not have had any flavor at all.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes vs. Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef Review: Portions.

Again, Stouffer's chipped beef is the better of the two choices. The plastic pouch the chipped beef is packaged in is very misleading. Once heated up and served over whole wheat toast it filled up my plate. There was more than enough chipped beef for one person.

I found the portion of meatloaf to be too large considering the amount of mashed potatoes included. As someone who likes to dip my meatloaf in my mashed potatoes I discovered I was left with extra bites of meatloaf and not enough potatoes. All in all the meal filled up my stomach but not nearly as much as the chipped beef did.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes vs. Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef Review: Misleading Packaging.

One of the things I find interesting in Weight Watcher's packaging is that all the meals look delectable. However, I also noticed that the picture on the Meatloaf box shows brown gravy spread liberally over the top of the mashed potatoes. This is misleading. The gravy is only on the meatloaf and there isn't enough to put on top of the mashed potatoes. Considering it tastes like tomato juice it would no go well over potatoes.

Stouffer's chipped beef packaging was every bit as misleading to me. It shows one serving on the front of the box but when you flip it over and look at the nutritional facts it clearly states there are 2 servings in the box. You would have to divide the pouch in half to eat only one serving but the good news is that even if you do eat both servings it's still only 140 calories.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes vs. Stouffer's Creamy Chipped Beef Review: Price.

I found the Weight Watcher's Smart Ones meals at my local supermarket for $3.98 a meal. This seemed to be average given the number of brands and choices in the freezer aisle. In contrast Stouffer's meals were selling for 2 for $4 which is the better deal.

Given my choice of Weight Watcher's Smart Ones 190 calorie meatloaf and mashed potatoes or Stouffer's 140 calorie, 2 serving, chipped beef, I would choose the chipped beef any day. Stouffer's was better priced, had a larger serving with less calories and tasted better.
