Weird Things You Can Do with Your Washer and Dryer when You Entertain
Lindy Lou's All New Handy Hostess Hints
Lindy Lou knows you want to have a party for all your friends, but space is limited. The fridge is already full, what with the giant watermelon carved to look like a basket, the tray of cold cuts, and the darling little champagne flutes full of your famous cheese cake chocolate kiwi parfait. So how on earth are you going to keep the beer and wine cold? Use your washer and dryer! Why should they just sit around being bored? Give your washer and dryer a job.
Use Your Washing Machine as a Cooler
Yes! Fill up your washing machine with ice, then pack beer and soda in it, and have your guests help themselves. How cool, a washing machine cooler. And if it's too hard to reach the bottles at the back, turn your washing machine on spin for a nano second. (Teasing.) You will remember to take the load of dirty underwear out of the washer before the party won't you?) Oh, I heard that, you just said you have a new front loading washing machine. Well, Ms. Whiny Pants, you can still pack that washer with ice, slide those bottles in there, and shut the door.
Use Your Dryer as a Bar
The top of your dryer is a flat surface, so load it up. You can actually turn your dryer into a bar for those who want ice and a glass, mixers and whatever else. Drape a pretty towel over the dryer first so things won't slide around, then display your prettiest ice bucket and tongs, wine glasses, pilsner glasses and more. If you dare to serve your guests hard liquor, put it on the dryer too. But if they drink too much, make them spend the night. (See future article, "Using Lawn Chairs for Additional Sleeping Arrangements for Unexpected Guests.") Okay, if you have one of those new front loading dryers that are taller than your 12 year old, you probably can't do this. All because you just had to have the latest dryer, didn't you?
Use Your Iron To Heat Your Coffee
So what if you have to use your smooth stove top to set up the buffet. So what if you had to move the coffee machine off the counter. Make coffee ahead of time, and put it in an old fashioned coffee pot. Then plug in your iron on the floor upside down, and sit the pot on top of it. It will stay warm and your guests will rave about your resourcefulness, unless one of them kicks the pot over and sues you for third degree burns. (If you can't tell when Lindy Lou is teasing by now, I give up.)
Use Your Binoculars and Digital Camera to Shoot Video of the Guy Across the Street
This is the guy who is always watching the goings-on at your house through his window, while dressed only in a falling towel. Why not document his antics in a video? You can put it on YouTube, or maybe even have him hauled off to the poky! I know your digital camera won't shoot that far away, but hold your binoculars up to the lense and see what you get.
Use an Old Shopping Cart as a Barbecue Grill
So what if you don't have a barbecue grill. Lindy Lou has a handy hostess hint for that too. The next time you go to the store, just keep walking when you come out to the parking lot, until you get home with the cart. Then build a little fire in the back yard, sit the grocery cart on top of it, and place the food you want to cook on the bottom of the rack. You can use long twigs to poke through the sides to hold hot dogs or marshmallows. You should probably put a circle of rocks around the fire, to keep from roasting chipmunks. (Okay you knew that was a joke right?)
You Really Can Use Your Washer and Dryer to Help You Entertain
That is a real bona fide actual Lindy Lou Handy Hostess Hint. After all why should your washer and dryer sit there doing absolutely nothing when you're busy hostessing? You can't take your washer and dryer to work (not that you wanted to) but you can work your washer and dryer.

Post a Commentloved the idea of the shopping cart for the grill...lol....
What wonderful ideas! I want to have a party now.
I'll never look at my appliances the same again. Funny but practical hints. Thanks for the comedy of it all.
From the first part I could've sworn you'd been to one of our parties! Not that I thought to use the washer as an ice bucket (but ya know... it could woik!). However, Doug & I used to cover the washer & dryer w/ large table cloths or colorful sheets when they were in our big kitchen. We'd put ice bucket, drinks, cups on one & containers w/ silverware, napkins & plates on the other. It was really convenient! At our house now, the W/D are not near the kitchen, but the portable dishwasher is. It wears a nice clean colored sheet & becomes the table for ice, drinks & glasses. Ta-DA! I remember your outrageous article awhile back about using the grocery cart as a grill. HA! You've got a million brilliant ideas, don'cha, Lindy! Glad you put that creative madness to work for us! ; D
I noticed the title and had to read this! Fun article,I really enjoyed reading it.
Ahh now Linda... this reminds me of my hazy, penniless, bachelor early twenties. The washer/dryer cooler and serving station was practically a necessity as there was only so much room on the cable spool coffee table. Incidentally, you wouldn't BELIEVE what can be done with a bath tub in a pinch. ;)
Okay, and I thought you were serious!
You are a resourceful little Jedi Linda! I am sure that you probably don't watch NCIS: LA but you seem to be channeling Hetty in this article.
reosurceful to saythe least!
LOL! GREAT tips on being a super hostess. :)
