Welcome to a World Where Blogging Has Become the New Sliced Bread

We all wake up each morning checking our email and seeing if we have anything important to read from the world. We drink our coffee and brush our teeth, we take the train or bus to work and while making our daily commute and a man grabs our behind. We are appalled and we feel someone should know. Oh, he also took your chai latte.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to an age where nothing is too private and people everywhere are dying to share their most private...no, not those privates, their most private thoughts. We have entered a day where everything is open and no subject is too taboo.

During our daily work shift we log on to our weblog and explain to the world the man on the subway and how he stole our latte, and don't forget the impromptu game of grab-ass he partook in as the sole player. We explain our new shoes, high arches, a killer to walk in but are bound to reel in a rebound at the new club across the street from the old club, which you can no longer attend because it's deemed ex-beau territory.

This is an age where every one has got a story to tell and they are starving for someone to listen. This is an age where we can hear across high school libraries everywhere the tapping of fingertips across the keyboard and no they aren't writing essays they are sharing their mundane stories of relationship troubles and traumatizing childhoods. Frequented by everyone weblogs are extremely popular and well most often than not filled with pointless drivel.

A weblog, commonly referred to as a 'blog', is essentially an on line journal, you can type or 'write' about your inner most thoughts but the only difference to an on line blog and an actual journal is the fact that we can see it! Not only can we see it but a reader can even comment of the recent posts and be as anonymously critical as we see fit.
You can see how this can be a high schooler's best friend and worst nightmare correct?

There are a vast variety of blogs out there, political, parental reference and an abundance of miscellaneous chick-lit

Websites such as myspace, livejournal, and blogspot.com are popular blogging sites that allow a "blogger" to create and on line archive of posts and customize the look of their new obsession. Blogging quickly takes hold of us and before we know it were are googling our names and hoping for comments. Even if we try to detain our inner author and not attempt to swim against the current after seeing the success of certain weblogs suddenly the word weblog looks more similar to 'we-blog' as in "we blog and so should you!" and we can't help but get sucked into the lives of this reader, rooting for our new flawed protagonist to win his war on the late shifts at Dennys and get his .05 cent raise. This leads to eventually feeling as if our own personal story needs to be told.

What drives us to be so interested in the lives of others? What is it that makes us think that someone would actually find our everyday interesting when we ourselves find it dull and never feel truly satiated with our current situations? Have we become a society that revolves around drama so much so that E! online and The Fabulous Life of.. are no longer enough to get our daily fill of other peoples daily lives? Or is the thought that the dream of on line success can one day lead to something greater, something bigger? The truth of the matter is that there should be a header placed on all blogs "Beware, addicting." or on some "Beware of monotony."

People will always find something oddly tempting about the story of the underdog even if it happens to be the underdog cheerleader. We love to hear about great triumph and great downfall. It's why we love to hate Anna Nicole Smith and hate to love famous blogger Stephanie Klein.
