I heard someone ask this question recently. "God wants us to walk in truth, in love, and in freedom", I thought to myself. Needless to say, I knew what the topic of my next Bible study would be. I was led to delve a little further into just what it means..."God wants us to walk in truth, in love, and in freedom."
I read from the NKJV.
John 8:32 - Jesus said that the truth will make us free. Psalm 51:6 says that God desires truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part, He will make us know wisdom. That's because God knows that if you don't have it on the inside, you can't manifest it on the outside. Matthew 12:34 - The good man out of the treasure of his heart brings forth good things."
So what truth are we supposed to walk in? We need to know the truth about who we really are, what our relationship to God really is, and what we really have. The truth is "I am", and you are, and you are, and so on and so on. We are created in God's image and after His likeness-Genesis 1:27. God created us in His image and after His likeness. That's a very profound statement because it tells me that all the very best of me, is already in me, I just need to believe it, and bring it out. Romans 8:29 tells us that we are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ Jesus, so that Jesus might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Satan's question to Eve in the Garden of Eden was, "Has God really said?" -Genesis 3:1. Satan lied and instilled doubt, distrust, and fear, and the result was dysfunction. He tried to do the same thing to Jesus in the wilderness, saying, "If you are the Son of God..." Matthew 4:3-6. The truth is you are! "Yes, of course I'm a son or daughter of God," you say. But when we know exactly what that means, when we realize that truth in its fullness, then it becomes life changing. "If you are the Son of God...
Isaiah 9:6 takes on a whole new meaning. "The government (spiritual) shall be on your shoulder, your name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty (God), Everlasting (Father), Prince of Peace. No, it's not blasphemy, it's the truth! If you think about in spiritual terms of principalities and authority, and if you were to look at your own spirit as a "principality", the government of that "principality" is on your shoulder, you are a prince or princess of peace. You are wonderful-Psalm 139:14, you are a counselor-you counsel yourself every time you have a thought and/or make a decision. You have wisdom, compassion, etc.-the things counselors have, built right in. You were created that way. You are mighty in God and you are everlasting, an eternal being. You are potentially even an everlasting father/mother because when you plant seeds of God's truth into someone's heart and they are born again, that person is your spiritual child.
When you read the Gospels and the things Jesus did, you're reading about yourself and all that you can do. That's why Satan tried so hard to cause Jesus to doubt. 1John 4:4 - He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. He who is in the world is Satan. He works at destroying the truth in us from the minute we're born, and sometimes even in the womb. He does that through afflictions (mental and/or physical illness, oppression, depression, addictions, etc), abuse (physical, sexual, emotional)-this includes self abuse, circumstances and events (job loss, divorce, failures). All of these can the way we view of ourselves and the world around us. Satan knows that.
Satan knows that if you get a revelation about who you really are, and start walking in that truth, you'll be free from all the lies that you've believed about yourself, all the pain, anger, confusion, and frustration you've felt as a result of believing those lies, and in turn, you'll be free from all the oppressing and destructive behaviors that you've gotten caught up in, and the dysfunction that you've been trapped in as a result. You'll be free to be who God created you to be; free to be all that you were meant to be. The truth is that God created you in His image. The truth is that God loves you-He said of Jesus, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17. When you know that truth, you'll love God, you'll love yourself, and you'll be free to extend that love to others. God wants us to walk in truth, in love, and in freedom.
