We all have an aura: imagine this as an energy field surrounding us. It is with us all the time as it is an extension of ourselves. Although views vary on how far this energy field protrudes, as people meet, pass others by and make contact with each other, it is possible to pick up on another person's psychic and emotional energy.
Spending a lot of time with a person who is depressed, for instance, can seem to drain a more positive person, emotionally. Healers are more exposed to negative auras and the more this builds up, the more likely they are to become ill themselves. Atmospheres in rooms and buildings, sad experiences, dealings with angry or violent people all leave negative energies. Energy cleansing exercises will help remove these.
Many of these techniques involve visualization. Stand and imagine, for instance, a pure white ball of light hovering over your head. Allow this light to enter your being through your crown chakra. Keep your breathing slow as you feel this light slowly move down through your body and fill you. Take your time and imagine this pure, clear light flowing through your veins, making its way to your feet. Now imagine all this energy leave your feet and flow deep into the earth below. As it flows through you and joins with Mother Nature, the light also cleanses you of all negativity.
Another visualization exercise is to imagine a huge spinning ball of light surrounding you. Whenever you start having doubts, feeling anxious, thinking negative thoughts, see yourself stepping into this ball of light and visualize the light repelling this negativity. This technique can be used anywhere, for instance if you are spending a lot of time with pessimistic or needy people.
Other energy cleansing exercises that do not involve visualization include: walking in the countryside and simply breathing in the clear air and soaking in the natural ambiance around you. Or you could enjoy a long soak in an energy cleansing bath. This will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized in mind, body and soul. Add 1 cup of salt, 1 teaspoon of essential oil (as suggested below) and 1 cupful of Epson salt to a deep warm bath and relax!
