Wellness Dog Food - Holistic Approach to Good Health for Your Dog
Longevity and Proper Nutrition Go Hand in Hand
I knew what I was looking for in a pet food for my own animals. I wanted to give my money to a company with a quality assurance program in place that could ensure the food met human quality standards, and was free of contaminants. Unsure that such a company even existed, I nonetheless began to review the available options in the pet food market. I stumbled upon the Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard website, and was intrigued. Was it possible there really was a company concerned with the safety and welfare of my pet to such an extent that it would take the steps necessary to be picky about the ingredients used, test the product accurately and thoroughly, and reassure its customers that their products met the high standards I was looking for?
Yes, such a company does exist! Old Mother Hubbard and its Wellness line of dog and cat foods and treats are premium choices for finicky owners like me. They have meticulously created a menu of choices whose ingredients include hormone-free human grade chicken, fish, and lamb, plus tomatoes, apples, blueberries, carrots, sweet potatoes, and spinach. When you realize that there are no specific safety standards for pet food, and that Wellness has gone to the extra time and expense to make sure the foods they sell have the same standards as the foods you and your family eat, you know that this is a company who truly cares. In fact, none of their products were affected in any way by the pet food recall. That in itself is very reassuring.
Wellness offers dry dog foods for all ages ranging from puppy to senior, a weight control kibble, a kibble for dogs with allergies and food sensitivities, canned food, treats, and supplements. For dogs over one year of age, they have created a line called Wellness Core. This is a high protein, grain free kibble which is based on the raw feeding philosophy that has become popular among dog owners who prefer a holistic approach to feeding. Wellness has made it easy to adhere to this philosophy by eliminating the need for consumers to keep raw meat and bones on hand for their dogs.
The Wellness line of cat food includes dry, canned, pouches, and supplements. Featuring a protein choice of chicken, salmon, turkey, and healthy additions of cranberry, tomato, rosemary, yucca, kelp, chicory, olive oil There is a choice of life stage and lifestyle foods, including a weight control formula, an indoor formula, and of course a kitten formula. Wellness Core is also available for cats.
You cannot buy Wellness foods at your grocery store. Their web site, www.oldmotherhubbard.com, offers a Where To Buy search feature which will allow you to easily locate a store near you. In my area, Wellness foods are only available at a whole foods market. This makes sense, as these foods are special. When you open a can of either the cat or dog food, you can immediately tell that the contents are chicken, turkey, or fish. Sure, they cost more, but if you read the ingredients on a can of grocery store food and compare it to the ingredients of a can of Wellness, you'll understand why. You're buying REAL food for you pet, not chemicals and by- products! Quality costs, but it will save you money in the long run as your veterinary bills will be quite small. So much sickness in our pets is due to poor nutrition! "You are what you eat" is a saying that applies to animals as well as humans.
Old Mother Hubbard was founded in 1926, and the Wellness dog products were first introduced in 1997, with the cat selections following in 2000. Over the years, they have continued to maintain the highest standards and a commitment to create only the best foods for dogs and cats. I am totally sold on these products! My dog enjoys the Wellness Chicken Super 5 Mix, and my cats are in the process of changing over to the Complete Health Deboned Chicken and Rice. There is no better pet food than Wellness!
