Wellsboro, Pennsylvania is the heart of Northern Pennsylvania. Its lovely mountains surround you around every corner and the people of this quiet town are pleasant. There is plenty to do, especially outdoors.

Located northwest of Williamsport off the I-99 corridor, you will find everything from quaint downtown shops, a small movie theater, kayaking, and even a Grand Canyon in this town. But first, you need a place to stay.

Both the Penn Wells Hotel and Penn Wells Lodge are located right in the heart of Wellsboro on Main Street. There are also numerous bed & breakfasts, such as Bear Mountain B&B. If you enjoy a more rustic stay, and love the outdoors, consider camping at Twin Streams Campground in Morris, just outside of Wellsboro, or in the local state parks.

By now, I'm sure you're hungry, and there are plenty of options for good eats and treats in Wellsboro. My favorite for breakfast, lunch, or dinner home cooking is Harland's on Pearl Street. If you are looking for a good brew, stop by The Gaslight located on Main Street. To experience quaint train-like dining, check out the Wellsboro Diner & Gift Shop also located on Main Street. For the best steak around, visit Morris just south of Wellsboro and go to Babb's Creek Inn & Pub. I have been told their prime rib is phenomenal. Before you leave, pick up some famous bagels at the Native Bagel downtown.

Recreation is a popular tourist draw for anyone visiting the Wellsboro area. A must see is the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania located in Leonard Harrison State Park. Here you will also find great hiking trails. For those wanting to hike, bike, or ride horse, Wellsboro is surrounded by plenty of groomed rail trails that follow the famous Pine Creek. If you want even more adventure, visit Pike Creek Outfitters located on Route 6 or Country Ski & Sports for information on local whitewater rafting and kayaking expeditions.

For winter recreation, there are numerous options. Skiing is ample at Ski Denton which is west of Wellsboro on Route 6 in Coudersport. Ski Sawmill is another great option especially for families and is located in Morris. There are also numerous local clubs that support snowmobiling which is a popular sport in the area.

For families, Wellsboro is a particularly nice place to visit. The Tioga Central Railroad offers many nice daily excursions. The Corning Museum of Glass is just a short drive away in Corning, NY and provides a great tour of their facilities. The Tyoga Country Club has a pool which is great for a summer dip and many of the local businesses provide family activities throughout the year.

Wellsboro is also well known for their special annual events. The most popular isDickens of Christmas which is held every year in December. It is a grand weekend full of arts, crafts, and history. Other popular events is the Laurel Festival held in June and the Endless Mountains Music Festival held in August.
