WEN Sweet Almond Mint Hair Oil Review

The Pen
I ordered a bottle of WEN Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner and Styling Creme a few weeks ago from QVC, and because I have a kinky, coarse, and dry hair texture I decided to buy a bottle of the WEN Sweet Almond Mint Oil as well for more hydration.

I'd previously tried WEN's Tea Tree Oil which I still own, and I had good results with it, it helped to heal my sensitive scalp, but I wanted to try a WEN oil with a more appealing fragrance so I decided to try the Sweet Almond Mint.

The Sweet Almond Mint Oil costs $20. It comes in a 4oz dark glass bottle with a faded grey/green floral label and it has a black dropper on top of it. WEN describes the oil as "a bath, body and hair oil that's made from the highest quality golden jojoba and essential oils." It's supposed to "leave the hair scalp and body soft and supple," while helping to "restore the mind body and spirit."

The oils are supposed to absorb quickly into the scalp skin and hair without leaving an oily residue behind, while aiding in having a healthy scalp which leads to healthy hair. The Sweet Almond Mint specifically is supposed to soothe, relax, and stimulate the senses while leaving the hair and skin moisturized.

WEN claimed that this oil would do a lot and when I used it I did fall in love with the scent. It didn't soothe and relax my senses but the sweet cherry and almond scent smelled sweet and perky so it definitely invigorated me.

I've used a few drops of it on wet hair after cleansing it with the WEN Cleansing Conditioner. It definitely added much needed moisture and helped to reduce frizz. But since my hair is so naturally dry and unruly unless I use a lot of drops on various sections my coarse strands wouldn't be fully hydrated with this oil alone.

So I found that I still needed to use an additional moisturizer when I allowed my hair to air dry with the WEN Sweet Almond Mint Oil. Though the oil itself probably would've sufficed had I blow-dried it.

I've also used the Sweet Almond Mint Oil several times once my hair was completely dry. And I found that sometimes my strands really absorb it, and at other times it just seems to rest on top of my hair instead of penetrating the shaft. So I don't really depend on it as a daily moisturizer.

However it does really absorb into my skin and roots when I've used it as a scalp treatment. It makes my scalp feel really soft and it doesn't leave behind a greasy or heavy feel. So my hair still feels light and clean afterward.

In the End...

The WEN Sweet Almond Mint Oil works very well as light moisturizer when used in conjunction with other WEN products on any hair type. But for dry textures like mines, I don't think it's an effective daily moisturizer by itself.

I will however continue to buy a few bottles of it from time to time to use as a scalp treatment. It smells really great and it's convenient to use daily to keep some moisture on my ends.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
