Wendy Williams Gets Slapped with Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Lori Godin
According to the Chicago Tribune, a lawsuit has been filed against Wendy Williams. She and her husband have apparently sexually harassed staff members of the popular radio show, ongoing since 2002. They apparently repeatedly propositioned an employee of the show by calling her late at night and telling her about his sexual fantasies. After the employee would not be coerced to join the couple's sexual fantasies, the tones of the phone calls became more threatening, finally, prompting the employee to peruse a law suit against Wendy Williams and her partner.

I don't know about you, but if this were my boss a lawsuit would have been filed a long time ago. This is happening more and more in workplaces, as we become more lax with sexual innuendos, and sexual talk. While working at a popular restaurant when I was younger, I was repeatedly propositioned by the manager of the chain. This would occur on a daily basis until after a couple of weeks, I had enough.

I went to the owner of the franchise, as well as the owner of the chain demanding that action be taken against this manager. Fortunately, it was not escalated to the point of a lawsuit, but justice was achieved. Like Wendy Williams and her husband, I was being harassed constantly, and therefore, he was terminated from his position.

There are many things that we can do, as employees to curb this kind of behavior. Unfortunately, it can't be avoided all the time, so - here are some tips to help deal with it when sexual harassment occurs, like in the case of Wendy Williams.

When sexual harassment occurs, like in the case of Wendy Williams it is important to speak to someone in a supervisory position. This will ensure that action is taken directly against the individual, as their superior is responsible for dealing with this kind of behavior. You should never have to feel threatened in the workplace, or at your home by people you work with.

Speak to the person who is doing the harassing and clearly outline that you are uninterested. The employee told Wendy Williams and her husband numerous times that she was uninterested, this is the proper thing to do.

Say No! Clearly say no, and make it known to coworkers that you are being harassed. The most important thing in a sexual harassment case is the acknowledgment that it was not acceptable to you, say no - and let others hear it.

It is not your fault. This is a very important thing to remember. The victim may sometimes feel as if they have done something to provoke this attack, this is not often the case, and it is important to remember that you are indeed the victim!

Take action, whether it be a lawsuit like in the case of Wendy Williams, or a termination like in the case of my employer. Do not let sexual harassment be swept under the rug. Ensure that employers take action, and do the right thing. You have the right to work in a safe environment!
