Wendy Williams Talk Show Renewed for 2009 TV Season

In 2006, when I wrote about Wendy Williams getting a VH-1 show, my hopes were almost as high as hers that it would be aired on a regular basis. As 2007 came and went, I knew that the Wendy Williams Experience would not even see rotation on the VH-1 Classic channel.

In the meantime, she would seek dominance in the ever-changing world of radio by expanding her syndication. Yes! She made it to Los Angeles on 92.3 in the weekday afternoons. I later found out in the spring of 2008 that Fox Broadcasting had given the green light on an hour-long talk show and felt very fortunate that my city was one of the test-market areas - even if it was only for six weeks!

Shortly after the announcement, came a pair of controversies that few in her position could handle.

The first was a sexual harassment suit brought on by her show's booking agent, Nicole Spence, against Williams' husband and manager, Kevin Hunter (Williams is also named in the lawsuit). The second would be an amateur sex tape that surfaced online in the early summer that features the very stout Hunter performing graphic acts with a female that is not his famous wife. In regard to the latter, Williams' defense is that the tape was made long before their 1999 marriage. It has since been removed from the Internet.

Though known for her candor first and cosmetic enhancements second, Williams smartly chose to not publicly address either scandal with her show coming in a matter of weeks. This could possibly be due to the fact that her show (like most talk shows) is created to appeal to women and women do not want a reminder that an alleged 'sex monster' is married to someone who could rightly be considered a media mogul but also get Executive Producer credits at the end of the show.

As a woman, I can only hope that the facts will present themselves soon and that Williams will come out the winner.

Though I personally am not a 'talk show fan', I must say that it would be worth anyone's time to check Wendy out at least once - if you're in the mood for celebrity gossip and other superficial issues. The set backdrop is in a loud, hot pink, accent with wood paneling and animal prints (kind of reminds one of a VH-1 reality show), the many places where Williams chooses to hide a Post-It (I'm assuming as a addition to cue cards) and her somewhat down home goofiness makes you laugh at her - or better yet, with her!
