Wendy's Food Prices Are Going Up While Less Items Appear on the Value Menu

Laura Hickey
Recently all over America retailers and eating establishments have been slashing prices and offering promotions to entice customers. In the fast food department many are offering combo menus for around $5.00 or less. Subway is currently offering $5.00 6 inch subs with chips and a soda. Or Steak 'N Shake with the four meals under $4.00. Perhaps you'd prefer the value menu such as a Whopper Jr. without cheese for a dollar at Burger King. Or a McChicken from McDonald's that also costs a dollar. But one fast food establishment is starting to rise prices and perhaps lose customers in the process.

If you haven't been to a Wendy's restaurant in a while, you may be surprised at the price changes. While ordering, an employee was in the process of changing the prices on the combo meals. Some meals have gone up almost a dollar. I've always been a fan of the value menu such as 5 piece chicken nuggets for $0.99. Medium drinks look like a large if you compare them to the size of McDonald's. A small frosty used to be $0.99. Or how about the chicken go wrap, the same idea that originally started in McDonald's is no longer $1.49 but now $1.69 each.

Now there's even less items to choose from on the value menu. Not to mention it's no longer around $0.99 but rather between the cost of $1.19-1.49 per item. Of course this price may vary from restaurant to restaurant. For some this can start to add up quickly if the order mostly consist of items from this menu.

Just the other day I saw a commercial for the Wendy's double stack, a cheeseburger with two beef patties for only $0.99. When I went in, it wasn't on the value menu anymore and was informed it now costs $1.99 each. My jaw dropped open as I was thinking to myself I should've gone to McDonald's where currently you still can purchase 2 double cheeseburgers for that price. As I was eating a Jr.Bacon Cheeseburger I found a surprise that wasn't good. In the middle of the burger it was still pink. Fresh is good but I don't want it so fresh it's not even cooked all the way. Even the combo burger wasn't cooked thoroughly.

Instead of going up to the counter for a replacement, all of us left. At the counter the employees were busy joking around about a mess on the floor and decided it wasn't worth the effort for a replacement. Perhaps sadly Wendy's may be next for laying off people due to customers may look else where for a better deal. The company seems to be taking a marketing scheme of being better than other fast food, they may want to mention it's going to cost way more possibly in the future.

The next time you're out and want to grab a bite to eat, be prepared to pay a little more at Wendy's. You may want to look in the paper or online for coupons as both Arby's and Burger King from time to time do offer coupons. Some coupons you'll see from Arby's include a coupon for a $0.99 Jamocha shake. Or $3.99 for an Arby's beef sandwich, curly fries and a soda combo. At BK, currently coupons include Buy a chicken tender or chicken crisp combo meal and get a free sandwich. Or buy any value menu and get a kids meal for only $0.99. There are deals out there, you just have to search for them.

Ouch, that is expensive! I think McDonald´s Big Mac meals are less expensive than that.

You are oh so correct, my grandson and I stopped late this afternoon at a Wendy's in the Johnston County area of NC. We both ordered very simple one patty meals, included fries and soda...they ask always, med. or large. We both got the med. I paid with my debit card, was very tired for I always notice my bill...got home and for both of us was $12.99...wow until I read this on the web, thought I had been taken....Wendy's has lost me forever as a customer. I could have gone to KFC or any where in the area for far less. Thanks for letting me vent!
