Wendy's Menu: Healthiest Fast Food Choices

Jody Morse
Fast food is not the healthiest option for anyone. However, there are times when our hectic lifestyles make it a convenient option. It's ideal to know what fast food choices are the healthiest options at your favorite fast food restaurants. Here are some of the healthiest fast food choices that you can make when eating at Wendy's.

Burgers

When ordering a burger at Wendy's, the best thing that you can do to save both calories and fat is avoid double and triple stackers. The Bacon Deluxe Triple, for example, cashes in at 1,150 calories (660 from fat) and 73 grams of total fat. A safer option to consider is the Wendy's Jr. Hamburger, which has 230 calories (70 from fat), and 8 grams of total fat. The Wendy's Jr. Cheeseburger contains 270 calories (100 from fat), and11 grams of total fat. Note that eating a medium order of fries with your burger will add a whopping 410 calories and 19 grams of fat.

Chicken

Remember that grilled chicken is generally the healthiest option at a fast food restaurant. Wendy's grilled chicken wrap only contains 260 calories (90 from fat) and 10 grams of fat, making it one of the healthiest chicken options on the menu. If you want a chicken sandwich, the ultimate chicken grill, which contains 370 calories (70 from fat) and 7 total grams of fat, is a healthy option. For crispy chicken, consider the crispy chicken sandwich, which has 350 calories (140 from fat) and 15 grams of total fat.

Baked Potatoes

If you're looking for one of the most healthy Wendy's menu options, consider a baked potato. The sour cream and chives potato has 320 calories (35 from fat) and 4 grams of total fat, while the broccoli and cheese potato has 330 calories (20 from fat) and 2 grams of total fat. If you're planning on a baked potato, stay away from the Wendy's bacon and cheese potato, which has 440 calories (110 from fat) and12 grams of total fat.

Chili

One of the healthier options on the Wendy's fast food menu is chili. A large order of chili contains 330 calories (90 from fat) and 10 grams of total fat. Though Wendy's chili contains 1,310 mg of sodium, it is packed with 28 grams of protein. A small order only has 22 calories (60 from fat), 7 grams of total fat, 870 mg of sodium, and 18 grams of protein. For a hearty meal from Wendy's, consider eating a small order of chili with a sour cream and chives potato.

Salads

Unlike McDonalds, Wendy's does not offer an array of healthy salads to choose from. The Baja salad, BLT cob salad, and the spicy chicken salad all contain over 45 grams of total fat. This is more than a burger from this fast food restaurant. If you're feeling in the mood for a Wendy's salad, the healthiest option is the apple pecan chicken salad, which has 580 calories (240 from fat) and 27 grams of total fat.

It is possible to make healthy choices when eating at Wendy's. The main key is to know the amount of calories and fat in what you are ordering. Visit the Wendy's website for more nutritional information.
