Were the Sun of Man

Were the Sun of Man

.

The distant sun would close his distance soon,

If he could but abide by manly mood,

He'd be among us, as would soon the moon.

.

If he could, near to touch, under his noon,

Know hunger quenched by divine taste of food,

The distant sun would close his distance soon.

.

If he could with the earth he lights, commune,

And in its cooling waters be subdued,

He'd be among us, as would soon the moon.

.

He'd brush his heated sands that make the dune,

And all the lands such burning sands include,

The distant sun would close his distance soon.

.

He'd pray to know that touch of garment strewn,

Above the skin of lovers lushly hued,

He'd be among us, as would soon the moon.

.

But if to all this we did, him, attune,

We'd burn in light, for selfish men are crude,

The distant sun would close his distance soon,

He'd be among us, as would soon the moon.
