Wesley Chapel High School Review

I attended Wesley Chapel High School from 2004-2006 as a junior and a senior. Personally, I cannot say that I enjoyed it. WCHS has a problem that is overlooked and no one has bothered to fix it-it is barely discussed.

First off, I believe WCHS is interested in enforcing the wrong rules. They easily let off repeated aggressors in a fight by giving them a couple days of suspension. However, I see people who broke the dress code punished more severely. I believe that WCHS should focus less on the dress code-teachers literally carry rulers around with them to measure your clothing. Another thing that bothered me is that they banned band T-shirts so that they would not offend religious groups on school grounds. Yet, the religious groups were able to wear shirts that stated homosexuals were going to go to hell on tolerance day.

WCHS, hence the name, has a strong Christian bias. There is nothing wrong with the Christian religion but it is not a comfortable school for someone who is not Christian. I had Hindu and Jewish friends who were teased relentlessly and told that they were going to go to hell. Homosexuals are not welcome either. In fact, I'd say it is a downright unsafe school to go to if you are gay-something WILL happen to you.

The main problem is that children are dying. Not from anything in particular but people are dropping like flies in car crashes, aneurisms, and petting zoo viruses. Two of my friends that I graduated with were shot a month after graduation. They were murdered by another teenager.

All the deaths have caused a deep depression in Wesley Chapel that has affected the children greatly. Students are more apathetic, drug use and violence is increasing, and attendance is decreasing. Wesley Chapel also has an expanding population, which has led to overcrowding in schools. Overcrowding could ruin the only thing Wesley Chapel has going for it...a good learning experience.

However, the problem, right now, is not the teachers. Most of the teachers there give a superb education. However, it is the students. WCHS is a suburban school, yet people act as if they are from the inner city. Gangs are forming, people are dying and the school is unsafe.

WCHS has tried to eliminate the violence by putting up video cameras everywhere and they are putting up a new fence. The students never had the privilege of leaving for lunch but now they cannot even go to the bathroom during class. There is speculation that the school board wants to insert metal detectors into WCHS' halls.

Wesley Chapel High School is located at 30651 Wells Road, Wesley Chapel, Florida 33544. They can be reached at (813)794-8700 and http://wch.pasco.k12.fl.us/.

    Hello,

I am glad to hear that overcrowding has stopped in WCHS since Wiregrass Ranch opened. However, it opened after I left and after this was posted. Also, in response to dbo, Wesley Chapel (the town) is named after a CHURCH that burnt down a looong time ago. It was so long ago that they used to teach class at that church and there is a class picture of kids who attended that school in either the 03 or 04 yearbook. The town is extremely religious-it does not have a religious affiliation because they are federally funded but the people who attend it are mostly strongly christian. The tolerance day incident did happen in either 05 or 06, I was there for that. & I never said that I was beaten for being gay. & I went to four high schools and Zephyrhills and Wesley Chapel High School were the most close minded schools I went too-and also the schools that tended to have more teasing.

&to Moka, maybe Mrs. Taylor got fired. I have no idea, I no longer attend WCHS.

I just began attending WCHS. I had no idea that there was even a hint of religious affiliation. Nor do i see any acconts of teasing or over crowding. and by the way it is NOT ok for people to make "fun" of others. rather than worring about how kids dress what should be addressed is how kids treat each other. I had no idea mrs taylor carried around a ruler, im not even sure if i met her, but I have had something said to me about dress code and i felt that it was absolutely uncalled for considering how some other students dress. Wesley Chapel has "favorites" and that is wrong. It should not be accepted but what can you do?... My point is every student has a different experience at WCHS,leave it at that.
