Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years for Tax Offenses

From Revolutionary to Cell Mate

C. Sherwood
Any guy out there knows Wesley Snipes from the "Blade" movies. He has been an idol for most guys out there for both his acting skills and his stacked muscles. His idol status truly set him up to be the spokesperson for a good cause. Others with similar status have used their power to promote such causes as animal rights, expose such atrocities as genocide, and use their example to keep kids off drugs and keep them in school. So what does Wesley Snipes choose to promote with his fame and influence? Tax Evasion.

I would be more behind his cause if he would have used the money he kept from the government for something beneficial. Something like 5 million for a charity, food bank, scholarship fund, or something else that would help our nation get out of the slump it's in, but where did the money go? Who knows but probably his own pocket. Sure part of taxes do go to pay greedy, dishonest politician, but what about the money that goes to government programs and subsidies that help support our nation? Even if 4 million of the taxes due went to pay government salaries, 1 million of that would have gone to help the nation in a serious time of need and 1 million can go a long ways if used correctly.

So what makes Mr. Snipes so special that he feels he shouldn't have to pay like the rest of us? Heck yeah, I wish I didn't have to pay any taxes, but then where would we get money for things like road upkeep, help for single mothers and children, and money for federal grants for education? Part of being a part of a nation is helping that nation run, and helping others in need. That's what makes us "one nation" is being one family regardless of race, religion, social status, or how much money you make. Sure, I agree that too much money is spent on war and salaries for those who are supposed to be serving and making decisions for the greater good, but what happens if we completely cut all those funds off? I promise you this world would not be a better place without taxes.

So shame on you Wesley Snipes. You may have thought you were helping start some new revolution for not paying taxes, but really all you did was rob more than a million dollars from the rest of us who will have to make up for the money that you decided not to pay. I hope that while in prison you hear the stories of those who have dealt with the poverty and hardships of the people in this nation that do not have millions of dollars of disposable income. Maybe then you'll see who you're really keeping those vital funds from.
