Wesley Snipes Talks 'Blade' from Behind Bars

I can't imagine how the website IGN got an interview with Wesley Snipes from inside prison. Can you imagine? He is sitting in his cell or working out in the prison gym and a guard comes in and yells, "Hey, Snipes! You're 1:30 interview is here!" He walks to the phone room (or whatever they call it) and sits down at one of the spots. He picks up the receiver and looks through the glass to see a scruffy looking reporter in a "Halo" shirt sitting across from him. At least that is how I picture it.

IGN really did talk to the imprisoned Snipes about what is going on with the "Blade" franchise. The actor shared with them that he most definitely has interest in doing another film as the vampiric half-breed.

"It would be nice to fulfill some of the really cool plans we had for Blade but didn't get the chance to go live with," he commented.

He also seems to be a little upset at the way Hollywood has not given credit where he feels credit is due.

"Some people forget or overlook my/our contribution to this current trend. The 'Gaming' community knows and the streets give us credits, but the movie world frequently plays us like the 'ugly step child' or the 'kitchen help,' especially when the conversation revolves around the 'boys in tights' or 'the bat'."

While I will admit that "Blade" was instrumental in helping to prove comic book movies were a viable industry for Hollywood to explore, I would hardly say that they broke the ground for the new "Batman" or "Superman" movies. Those movies would have ended up being made eventually anyway. What "Blade" did was prove to Hollywood that the lesser known super heroes and comic book characters could carry their own films as well.

The industry "plays" Wesley Snipes "like the 'ugly step child' or the 'kitchen help" because most fans of comic book movies didn't like "Blade: Trinity" and it was a box office flop. It did not even make back its budget. I actually liked "Blade: Trinity," so I am not speaking personally.

"Getting asked this question all the time, my response is: 'Under the right circumstances, with the right team, yes, I'd do another one,' " Snipes continued.

I certainly hope he'll make another "Blade" movie. I loved all three of the films. I found the third one to be very action-packed and a lot of fun. was it the best one out of the bunch? Absolutely not, but I still found it enjoyable.

In closing the interview, Snipes made another comment that made it sound like he was blaming the last "Blade" film on the Hollywood players behind the scenes of the film.

"Don't count the original Daywalker out just yet. Now that we have a bit more control, the quality of my work is going to improve ten-fold and the company's products are going to blow people's minds. Get ready because we are about to bring 'nuttin but fiyar!'" The actor stated.

Now that may have meant don't count Snipes out in general because of a little trouble with the law and the government. However, he did throw the "Daywalker" comment in there. He might be right. Hollywood has a track record of ruining franchises or movies by letting producers and studio heads get too involved where they should not be. He might come out of jail and make the best "Blade" movie comic book fans have ever seen.
