A friend of mine was celebrating a birthday recently, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to check out West Egg. When you first drive up, the café looks like a loft within a loft. The café is located on the lower level of a Loft building that appears to house apartments are well as business space. When you walk into the café, it reminded me of a mix of the South with the plain brown folder menus and glass jars with what looks like ceilings that are 20 feet high is reminiscent of a New York Loft.
The floors are made of concrete and there are large sections of fabric that hang from the ceiling that separate sections of the café. However, most of the café has metal and wood framed chairs and tables. There are exposed steel beans near the ceiling that looks like they are going straight through the ceiling.
Once our party was seated, we turned our attention to the menu. Those of you who know me, know that I love breakfast food. I could eat it all day long, which is a good thing because West Egg Café serves breakfast all day. The breakfast menu has so many choices that it took me a few minutes to decide what to order. I decided on the Blue Plate which includes two eggs cooked anyway you like, biscuit, your choice of bacon, ham or turkey sausage and a choice of the roasted garlic grits or skillet potatoes.
I choose to have my eggs scrambled with cheese, the turkey sausage and the roasted garlic grits. Of course I had to add a single buttermilk pancake to my order. Let me tell you, I was in heaven. The eggs were perfectly done, the turkey sausage had so many flavors, and the roasted garlic grits were creamy and delicious! The buttermilk pancake was splendid as it is served with vanilla bean butter, so there is really no need for the syrup. Can you say YUM!
The breakfast menu includes such wonderful dishes like cranberry almond granola with yogurt and honey, fried green tomato wrap, black bean cakes and eggs and Belgian waffles just to name a few. The lunch and dinner offerings are just as mouth watering and include: Fried green tomato sandwich, fried egg sandwich, turkey bacon gouda, pig and grits, chicken and dumpling pot pie and seasonal stewed vegetables just to name a few.
